Thread: You dipped WHAT in caramel?!?

Last week my best friend and I were making caramel apples (no brainer, apples). While I'd started chopping veggies to make vegetable beef soup she asked for a stick of celery. She was still dipping apples so I thought she was just asking for something healthy to munch on while she worked so......

she handed the celery back to me and it had a nice coat of caramel on it.

And it was GOOD! Yeah, I had to eat it, no use insulting the cook!

Guess what we tried next? Carrots (yuck). Tortilla chips (yum, especially if you plop a chocolate chip on it). More celery sticks (especially good once you let the caramel set...then it's chew/crunchy goodness).

She then informed me she makes fried Oreo cookies. And fried pickles. She's Portuguese so she makes Caldo Verde. I'm totally in girl crush mode!..l;,

Well. I am of the opinion that anything with caramel on it has to be devoured immediately.

Oh man. Fried pickles are the BEST.

We have everything you mentioned, minus carrots at the state fair. fried Pepsi Fried oreos, Fried Snickers...... Anything with caramel sounds good to me.

The title of this thread attracted me right away!! Am a BIG fan of chocolate covered anything, but am all for trying caramel covered too (ha, typed caramel "coveted" the first time - bit of a slip?). OMG, caramel-covered popcorn/peanuts/almonds is a fav. TG the grocery store is a 20 min drive away...

What is Caldo Verde? I could use a new recipe!

LOL! I read this and was wondering, how the heck do you fry Pepsi - in a can? ..l;, I've never had any of these fried items but they sure do sound good.

Caldo Verde is a traditional Portuguese potato and linguica soup.

We forgot the parsely and pepper flakes but it was sooo good. Izzy tells me the secret to good Caldo Verde is kale that is very thinly sliced.

I have to add that my kids love this soup!

Caramel over chocolate any time.

Caramel with celery sticks...would be willing to try but I'm afraid...it might be like potato chips-you can't eat just one...

Thanks. Have printed Emeril's soup recipe. I'm growing kale, for the first time,in my garden. This works out great!

Of course we'll have to try the caramel on celery.....
