November Weight Loss and Fitness Support

How's everyone doing? Last week was a tough one for me. My boss threw a pizza party for one of our meetings (very nice of her, but tough for me because I can't control myself around pizza). I went to a Halloween Party Saturday night and then of course Halloween on Sunday. I told myself to do the best I could with the situation in front of me and I thought I'd be happy if I just maintained my weight last week.

Well.... I went to Weight Watchers tonight and I'd lost 1.4 pounds. I was very happy about that. My total loss so far is 5.6 pounds (since September 27), which is almost half way to what I want to lose in total.

My goal for this month is to try to maintain the slow moderate weight loss I've had over the past month. If I can lose a half to one pound a week, that would be great.

Glad you started this thread. I, too, find it very hard to control myself during the Holidays, so it helps to have support!

I'm down 12 pounds and 1-2 dress sizes, depending on what I'm wearing. I've been doing P90X and I am in love with it. It is the best thing I've ever done for myself.

Glad to see others chiming in here. The winter months are always hard here in Maine. All I want to do is sit by the fire and drink hot cocoa or red wine. This is the first time I've ever try'd losing during these months, so it's a challenge.

Still at a plateau, nothing lost, nothing gained (thx God!) I want to start walking on my treadmill again since Summer is now gone, but I'm having trouble with my knees.

And I have to stop everything. But I'll try to do minor impact exercises with agreement of my chiroprator, will see about that on our next meeting soon.

My mind want to do it, but my knees (espacialy the left one) are saying no way lady!,f::,m::

Hoping you'll get well as fast as possible Qamar!

I think it's time for me to join this thread!
After pregnancy - two years ago- (I took 46.5 lbs!!!) I started WW and lost 24lbs... But I got bored of it, of taking notes for everything. I still think it's a good program but for the moment I don't feel like I would be serious enought for it!

Anyway, I still have about 20lbs to loose, and I decided that I had time for it... sOoOOo, for june I hope I'll hav lost them! 3.3lbs a month, I'm sure I can make it!

Aw hang in there honey! Try not to let negative thinking derail your plans for health.

Re website: I think that getting some hot new photos done will help you feel better about yourself and you'll be able to spiff up your website. Monika (aka Amara aka shimmygoddess) does a bang-up job with portraits. She's having a portrait party tonight--which is probably too late of notice for you--but you should see when the next one is. Great price and you'll get a good product. Or you can contact her about a private session. It'll be worth the money to feel good about yourself and your dancing. :)

    Way to go, Annwyn!

I'm hoping for a good eating week. After my 2-week long sugar binge, I am trying to get myself off of it it again. Sugar does CRAZY things to my body...but of course I am craving some fruit snacks (the processed kind not actual fruit as a snack)...will chug the rest of my water instead. ..g.:

I'd like to join in here too!!! I need to lose about twenty pounds. I know I would feel so much better about myself and I would look a lot better as well! I've started walking - either with the neighbour lady or on my own. I did start taking a pilates class - enjoyed it but just haven't gotten there enough for one reason or another. I am going to try to get back to the Y this month. I've had a very stressful year - husband's poor health, daughter-in-law dealing with cancer (both while pregnant and afterwards), - but also a wonderful year in that we have a granddaughter who was born in June. My eighty-four year old mother lives with us and that can be very stressful as well. And, on top of this, I recently received a very hurtful note from someone that I thought was my friend and is accusing me of doing things I just did not do and there is no changing in her mind - I did call her and try to reason with her but there is no reasoning with someone who feels they are right. Anyway, as you can see, lots of stress and bellyfat is where I have my worst problem and with the stress, it just adds to it!!!! I need the support of all my sisters in dance!!!!!

Re: November Weight Loss and Fitness Support

Emotional eating is a huuuuge issue for me but if I eat nourishing, hearty meals I'm less likely to do so. A couple of weeks ago we had the last of the Californian avocados we were going to get here so I started eating them like crazy and guess what? I lost weight. WTF? Albeit, they were sliced and smushed on brown rice cakes but I thought they were fattening! I was eating one a day for Pete's sake!

I've been eating Greek Gods yogurt to boot, and not the low fat kind. I find that it's more satisfying than that light stuff so it's a struggle to finish a serving. Maybe eating the real thing in moderation actually works?

One of the things that seems to work for me is portion control: I put less on my plate than I think I'll eat and I rarely go for seconds. You'd be amazed at how out of proportion our appetite is compared to what we actually need. Since I've been doing this I eat about the same amount as my rugged little 7 year old does. My 12 year old is a bottomless pit so I don't even try to eat what he does! ..l;,

Mmmmm.....those avocados in the kitchen sound good but there's a kitty sleeping on the back of my legs and another sleeping with his front legs wrapped around my left arm. *sigh* Maybe they're the real reason I'm not eating so much......

Winter is always the hardest for me but I really need to lose 10lbs or so. I'm starting yoga today and am going to try cutting sugar and bread as much as possible out of my diet, wish me luck!

I think I did theothershimmytwin's diet, I had not quite the flu but was sick for a month, blech. At least I lost the extra weight I had gained. I am not in swimsuit shape, but I'm at what is normal for me, and I'm OK with not being a swimsuit model. I just need to get back into my regular exercise habits. I am going to be so sore after a month of turning into mush, except for my abs which I think have worked hard with all the nose blowing and coughing.

    I'm in!

I've been saying for a year that I need to get back on the ball, but I've slowly gained back ALL the weight I previously lost (25 pounds).

I started this month trying to lose 5 pounds per month over the next 6 months and then maintain.

I had already lost 5 in November (yay!) but then Saturday I had a big workout day (taught class, rehearsed Bollywood, did a trial trapeze class, walked my dog 4 miles) and my scale is showing me up by 3 pounds yesterday and today! That always seems to happen when I overexercise. I guess the muscle tissue retains water afterward? Trying to be patient, can't possibly have gained 3 pounds in a day!

It would help me to have a place to weekly report my progress. Keeps me accountable!

Anyone want to do a 5 lb. Turkey Trot?

It's hard to maintain or lose during the holidays. Basically, you either trot on by that extra piece of pumpkin pie (diet) or other turkey dinner fixins or trot to the gym (any workout will do) till Jan 1. Five pounds is a small "turkey", but doable between now and Jan 1. I need goals, time limits, and encouragement. So, anyone?

Dancerose, I'm in. I've put on 6kg in the past year and need to get serious again. It's summer here, so I'll be heading to the pool to swim a lot more now that work is slowing down.

I lost two pounds last week. Woohoo! I'm about 7 pounds away from my goal weight. I'm sure it will take awhile to shed, but it's coming off slowly and surely. Weight Watcher's rolled out their new program this week. I've got lots of reading to do.

Re: November Weight Loss and Fitness Support

Hey girls (and boys if any LOL),

I have started the same thing. I was back to square one and now after intense cardio and strength training I lost 3 pounds or so. Not a HUGE difference at this point, but I think my metabolism is kind of sluggish now. It usually has snowball effect where it starts slow and then goes faster. I heroically refused pizza as well (it is tough to do, totally agree as I love pizza). I am also a fresh bread lover (french baguettes, you name it LOL). I am preparing New Year dinner as well, but I am roasting a turkey. I figured at least I can stick to turkey breast along with mixed veggies I will be fine.

I was frustrated too, but you know what ladies, you are all beautiful and really don't feel bad. I am a pre-diabetic with PCO so it has been tougher for me, but at the end I know I will make it. The body will listen sooner or later as it would not have any other choice and we WILL lose weight.

I also want to thank everyone for their support. This is why I love this board.

    Hugs,
    Amani

But sticking to a food journal is very, very good. I started one for about at year, I tracked everything I ate right down to the little snack size chocolates. Then I visited a Dietitian and got a meal plan. Not really what I will eat everyday but what kinds of foods I should be eating everyday. You can find the same information the the food pyramid. I think going to a Dietitian is very helpful too if you can afford between $75 to $100 for a consultation. I can call mine with questions or send her e-mails I stop by her office if I have questions on my diet.

But I'm happy for you keeping up all the good work! I know you'll do fine!

Re: November Weight Loss and Fitness Support

I'm glad this thread is here! Right when I need it. Last month was VERY stressful, even without the election, and I packed on some pounds. I'd already gotten kind of lax about watching what I ate, and even though I go to dance class several times a week, I feel like I am not getting the kind of intense workout I used to. So a total lapse of caring at all about what went in my mouth as I dealt with a lot of awful crap I didn't want to think about has left me puffed out and loagy. It doesn't help that this coincides with the whole world carting out trolleys of sweets for the holidays! I've been weaning myself off sugar after all the Halloween parties, and I guess I'm going to have to work out in addition to the dancing. I also want to add another dance class; it's only a matter of finding one that fits into the limited free time in my schedule, so I can commit to going regularly.
I love dancing. I think it's better to dance than to march through life. ~Yoko Ono
