could the lunges in yoga be aggravating my plantar fasciitis?

My foot( arch mostly) is better. i think my heel was hurting cause i was taping too tight. for the next few days i will wear support hose and do some walking.

I was doing the Physical Therapy exercises this am ---and doing some yoga---i noticed that the lunges as part of the Sun Salutation were stressing my arch. Maybe that is what is keeping my foot from healing?

It would be funny if the gentle yoga classes i have been doing for the last 2 weeks keeps tweaking my foot. I don't do fast Vinyasa flow classes but what i do might still be too much. I'm getting a little crazy cause i haven't been to my Thurs. night restaurant. gig in over a month, i'm teaching very carefully, and then haven't been responding well to the PT exercises.

    so what do you think?

of course i could have done isolation exercises but i've been too worried to do much.

Actually, the plantar fasciitis issue is quite a paradox. Since the muscles in your leg are attached to the calcaneal tendon(Achilles tendon), and the calcaneal tendon is attached to the plantar fascia, anything that stretches the muscles in your low leg, which attach to the calcaneal tendon which is attached to the plantar fascia, will stretch the plantar fascia and aggravate plantar fasciitis. However as your PT would tell you, the condition will not heal without stretching.

If you haven't already been advised to, rest when you can feel it flaring up. I wouldn't drop the yoga, because ultimately it will help in the long run, but skip a class if you feel it's aggravating it- and don't be afraid to modify or abbreviate a pose if you feel strained. The irritation will not subside if you're on your feet for prolonged periods while they're inflamed. I'd also advise icing, which I'm sure your PT will already have mentioned. A good way to do this is to get a couple containers of frozen juice concentrate and roll them back and forth with your feet. Feel better quick!

thanks, Vanillacherry---i have 2 short easy back care yoga dvds w/out much of the lunges---i think i'll do those for a week along w/ the PT stretches instead of doing my yoga classes.
