    fibroids/anemia & dance

In a nutshell. I was recently diagnosed with fibroids and anemia (because of the huge loss of blood). I'm under drs care taking meds. My question to the dr- will i be able to dance-he said not for 2-3 months. I'm devastated. My husband has been very supportive. I'm such an active person but when just going upstairs from kitchen to bedroom is tiring. I hate feeling like this, I want to be back to my active self again. My husband keeps telling me take it easy and it will get better. I hope so. I got a follow up on Tuesday to see if the fibroids shrank .
Will I be able to dance with the energy I had before I was diagnosed. I am wondering if anyone else had this and can give me any advice. There are several workshops in my area I'm going to miss this includes spring caravan. I'm just happy I'm able to still work (desk job)
To keep my mind occupied I'm altering a new costume I got in Jan, doesn't replace dancing though.

    thank you for listening

    I haven't had any of these problems but my dance partner did and once she recovered from the anemia, which took several weeks, she was fine-lots of energy again. I hope you have a speedy recovery and are soon back to dancing! {{{HUGS}}}

I had some giant fibroids that negatively affected my life and dance 1.5 years ago. I felt so tired and ill all the time. The Mayo Clinic in Rochester was where I received treatment and because of that, I have my life back, my energy back. Feel free to send me a private message if you want to talk about this.

just curious- how big are they & how many do you have?

I'm at home recovering from a myomectomy as we speak. feel free to drop me a line if you'd like to ask me any questions about that option. its somewhat extreme and is not for everyone, I also looked into the newer option of embolization which is basically where they cut off the blood supply to the fibroids which causes them to decrease significantly. I've also got quite a few friends that are currently contemplating acupuncture

I thought my treatment was amazing, through my skin, no cuts.

    Focused ultrasound surgery
MRI-guided focused ultrasound surgery (FUS) is a noninvasive treatment option for uterine fibroids that preserves your uterus.

This procedure is performed while you're inside of a specially crafted MRI scanner that allows doctors to visualize your anatomy, and then locate and destroy (ablate) fibroids inside your uterus without making an incision. Focused high-frequency, high-energy sound waves are used to target and destroy the fibroids. A single treatment session is done in an on- and off-again fashion, sometimes spanning several hours. Initial results with this technology are promising, but its long-term effectiveness is not yet known.

wow, that does sound amazing. I wonder why I was never presented this option. the most "cutting edge" advance that I was presented with as an option was done through the fibroid institute out of ucla which was the embolization. the only reason I didnt go with it was because it supposedly effects your fertility...

I believe the focused ultrasound treatment is for those who are done having children, but I'm not 100% certain.

If your anemia is due to the blood loss from fibroids, are you on an iron support product? This is VIP for recovering your energy... if you're not, make sure to talk to your doctor about it and get a dosing strategy. Good supplement products are Ferrasorb by Thorne, and Iron Extra by Vitanica (they both have really high quality standards and tend to be non-constipating).

    Re: fibroids/anemia & dance

I have an update. Sorry it took so long(share a computer with husband) I got an ultrasound surgery as suggested. Thanks And insurance covered part of it yay!!! I'm feeling much better than before. I go to Dr on Tuesday for follow up. The Corvite iron pills are horrible. I'm going to ask the Dr to change them to a different kind. Its wrecking havoc on my system. It going to take me a while longer to get my stamina 100% I'm about a 80%.For me its progress. I have good and bad days. The birth control is working and no issues with them. I'm still like clockwork with my time of the month- was worried about that.
I want to thank everyone for all the great advice and support. I really appreciate it.

    Glad the treatment is helping.

The last thing on iron - obviously make sure you add iron rich foods into your diet, and take your iron pills with some kind of juice because they will absorb better. And if the juice is fortified with iron, all the better!

    Re: fibroids/anemia & dance

    Update:
Had my check up and physical last Tuesday and I got a good bill of health. My iron level is almost back to normal I still got a way to go. I changed my iron pills to ferasol- time released, I like these much better. Taking pills with OJ. Everything else is good I tested a bit high on cholesterol but nothing changing my diet , won't fix. Which I eat more iron rich foods and multi -grains etc. I have a lot more energy. Doctor still wants me to wait at least mid OCT (next appointment) give me dance okay. Still disappointed I will be missing awesome workshops. On the bright side, my hubby is taking me to London in September for our wedding anniversary. I'm so excited, worth not dancing. i have been working on my costume so far sequins are winning the battle
I want to thank everyone again for the advice and support..I wish everyone best of health.
    Bright Blessings

    Hi T Alexandria,

I just have my myomectomy 2 weeks ago (Oct 9) when were you able to get back into dancing? I had a vertical bikini incision. I'm also taking walks at least once or twice a day.

    regards,

    Yogi
