Oh girl I feel your pain... just stick with it though, and use water to "fill you up." If you hydrate yourself properly, you won't have as many cravings.

Re: Weight Loss Support 20 lbs or less?

    Update on my progress:

Troupemates have commented on my weight loss, I am down 12 lbs on Atkins - even after a trip to Canada, where I am spoiled rotten. lol

Was able to fit into a costume that about a month ago I had a two inch gap to even zip the skirt up, it zips up just fine now! The humidity and boredom are a constant struggle to stay away from chips (my big vice - I am a nibbler), but I can actually watch my kids devour ice cream while I sit with my sugar free jello and heavy cream topping. Seriously!

You have to reach that point of "OK, ENOUGH already with the ever enlarging frame", and I had reached that. Ever had some pics taken at a hafla and you either didn't recognize yourself or just untagged them?? lol! That's what did it. Harsh, but it lit the fire to keep going.

I'm also considering this not a diet, but a lifestyle eating shift for the long term. I feel healthier with more energy and that is the best part.

THat's great news Sahirah, just be careful with Atkins, last time I did Atkins (before going vegetarian), I put on so much weight once I started incorporating some carbs back into my life.

I'm at 17-19 lost. yay! was in a maintenance phase of HCG (soooo hard to do with lots of get togethers and everyone makes yummy smelling food) But back on it now and on the right track again, though I didn't actually gain more than 1 or 2 on vacation...

Emergency Gotta Eat NOW emergencies... I keep some raw almonds around. I'll give myself 2... chew them till they can't be chewed anymore -helps digestion- and wait a little. If i still need I'll repeat the 2 almonds every 10-15 minutes. I usually get by with 4-6 total to ward off the craving.

    Hope it helps.

YAAAAYYY Salsa!!!! That is SUCH good news!!! Congratulations!! Wow - you did so well with HCG, now you can be a spokesmodel. In your new costumes... custom, from Bella!

    Just putting it out there!

SaNooorah - Oh trust me I understand the potential weight gain with Atkins, or any diet. With Atkins, you HAVE to get that carb number limit early on and STICK close to that number. If you go over, be prepared to compensate if you really splurge. I react very highly to carbs, so I always have to stay in the lower limits. It's tough, but losing weight slowly and consistently keeps me going - even if it slows a bit.

    16 lbs down! Feeling good!

Even after a trip out of the country and a few minor "splurges" Atkins is working! I am going to stay on induction for about another month and then shift to OWL (Ongoing weight loss). I know now my carb number has to remain on the lower end of the spectrum than most people. I react pretty intensely to starch/sugars and though I'm not diabetic, I want to remain that way. Having it while pregnant was enough, tyvm!

I'm still eating Vegan, not to lose weight, but just to do it, and I definitely have an increase in my energy, and a decrease in my waistline! I am happy!

For those interested in a Vegan diet, check out Food Revolution by John Robbins. It's very eye opening.

Personally, I will never eat chicken, beef, or pig unless I know that it's come from a humane farm. Seriously. SERIOUSLY.

Re: Weight Loss Support 20 lbs or less?

I am now off induction and on OWL. Haha - took you ladies advice and bought some raw almonds (since those are OK for this phase now!) My Atkins site advises me to always watch with nuts, as some of the salted ones are so tasty you can overeat the amount, so I know I need to be vigilant here.

I hit 20lbs down today! *cartwheel*

The best thing I got back really was my energy, which was lagging for about 2 years. It's not 100%, but it's a good 80 right now. I have also decided to continue past the initial 20 and go for another 15.

Re: Weight Loss Support 20 lbs or less?

You ladies are so inspiring. I have got a full 20 to shed and finally got up the nerve to look at this thread. I've had success with Scarsdale in the past (12 yrs ago), also with HCG (2 years ago) and just bulked back up within the last year. Staying away from sugar (which I know includes any alcohol) and being *consistent* with exercise are the 2 things I need to do and the 2 things I have most trouble with. Seems if I don't exercise 1st thing in the a.m. it doesn't get done - as for the sugar, if I consume even the smallest amount through a simple carb or sip of wine, I tend to lose all resistance for the rest of the day. I can muster self-control on these fronts when I am alone, but cave under hubby's influence (he gives me a hard time when I try to leave early for gym because it makes him feel like he needs to get up also, encourages me to have "just one small glass of wine" because my abstaining lessens his enjoyment of it, etc.). I have only had great success before getting married or when I've gone away for weeks at a time. Any tips on counteracting the influence of an enabler??

    Thanks,
    -Devora

Re: Weight Loss Support 20 lbs or less?

Welcome Devora. You've come to the right place if you're looking for support. The people here are all fantastic. I wish I had some advice for you regarding your enabler. I'm fortunate enough to have a SO who is very supportive and doesn't sabotage me.

I'm frustrated. I've been doing P90 for 82 days now. I'm nearly finished with the program (I know it doesn't mean I'm done exercising) and I have haven't lost any weight. I weighed in today at 138.5 which is essentially the same weight I started at. I'm stronger which is good, but I've lost no weight and my clothes don't fit any better today than they did 3 months ago.

I've decided I need help and have taken the first step to getting it. Today I made an appointment with a doctor who specializes in weight loss. I don't have any health problems due to my weight, but I don't want to get any heavier and start having health problems. Here's a link to his web site: Portland Maine Weight Loss Program, Weight Management and Diet Help

I've never been able to get all the aspects of weight loss going at the same time. I can exercise, but not diet. Diet, but not exercise. You get the picture. I'm hoping this new plan will help me put it all together and get some long lasting results and make the necessary lifestyle changes I need to make.

My first appointment and consultation is next Monday (8/15). Wish me luck.

Re: Weight Loss Support 20 lbs or less?

I'm down 7 pounds! My weight fluctuates so much depending on the time of day, month, etc. But after my vacation, I was up 6 pounds, I weighed myself today and I was down 7!! woohoo!!

I am still vegan, walking my dog once or twice a day. I have cut out running my 4 miles, and now I run 1 and walk 1. its SO nice to just walk! I also try to not take short cuts when it comes to chores, gardening, going up the stairs, etc.

What I think has really made the difference for me though, is eating smaller portions of many things. The book, "French Women Don't Get Fat" was my impetus for trying it out. so now I eat 3 or 4 "main course" meals but in smaller portions, and I DO make sure to eat dessert every day, because if I didn't, I would binge. so smething like a small piece of carrot cake, or a scone, or a piece of dark chocolate, something small but indulgent.

Oh, and tons of fruits and veggies.

Devora, you should try asking your husband to support your efforts and ask him to NOT encourage you when you are trying to abstain from alcohol or go to the gym early. what if you try asking him to go on a walk with you instead, so you can spend time together?

In my nutrition class today the professor highlighted the importance of fiber. not just for regular stools, but all the implications that it has for weight, cancer, and other diseases. it's amazing, really. eat more fiber! !!

Yay Shimmytwin and your puppy walks and Shahla it sounds like you have a great doc who can help you!

Hi Devora! It sounds like a lot of my situation! One thing about Atkins in Phase two (OWL) that I am on now, is that you can have a glass of wine! I wine pour for a living when not dancing, so I really enjoy it. My friend and I the other night who are both on Atkins even had a bit "over" the allowed amount (lol) and it did not inhibit the weight loss. Wine is lower in carbs, especially dry reds. What I love about the Atkins option is just that I can always substitute something (like mashed cauliflower for potatoes, etc) and I don't feel like I am "dieting." It's a lifestyle change I can live with. It works great for me - and I also have a friend on Atkins who is doing this with me. She is a previous Scarsdale diet fan (and lost on it) as well! On Atkins - she is down 4 dress sizes in 2 months!

There is a eating lifestyle that suits everybody - Shimmytwin will vouch for being vegan and making substitutions for meats! Salsabelly has done amazing on HCG and the list goes on.

It's difficult when loved ones try to trip you up. Egads, summer+two kids+ ice cream=a challenge for Sahirah! But I whip up/chill some heavy cream, Splenda and Cacao chips and I have the closest- and creamiest alternate to chocolate ice cream! Teehee.

Success! I'm finally turning the scale in the direction I want it to go. I started my new physician supervised diet on Tuesday and I'm already down 3 pounds. I know I'll lose alot more my first week than I will on subsequent weeks, but it's a real boost in the arm to see that scale drop.

The first couple of days it was protein only and only 10 Oz. of it. So chicken, 2% cottage cheese, shellfish, turkey, string cheese, etc. Then I was able to add two servings each of veggies and fruits. So, right now, I'm eating very little. I'm a bit hungry, but combatting that by chewing sugar free gum and drinking lots of fluids. I go back weekly for checkups, so my first checkup with them will be Monday August 22. Slowly they will add more fruits/veggies/protein and also healthy fats. I believe I'll end up eating 40% of my diet in carbs, 30% in protein and 30% in fat. Very simlar to the Zone diet.

anyone else trying "Slow Carb"? Ive been enjoying the recipes here. My friends who are both personal trainers and muyai thai fighters (hubby and wife team) recommended it.
I also pick up my omega/efa blended oils. Im really really focusing. Last night I realized that I feel like garbage, and am not happy that the poof is back on my belly. (Im up 20 lbs from where I was last summer at this time. *snort*)

    I want to get back!!!!!

So I picked up some snacks, and am working on eating very small portions of the food left in the fridge. (Don't want to waste what's there. Just control it) before buying new food.

I agree with theothershimmytwin. No need to leave. We're happy to be here to support you regardless.

I had my first official check-up with the doc today. I lost 5.5 lbs. Woohoo! I know I won't lose that much each week, but this means I'm 12 lbs away from goal and that feels good.

    Add a sub heading or 20lbs +!!!!!
I have to say I have taken a very long time and 2 holidays have got in the way..where I ate what I liked . Having said that I found I didn't want to "stuff my face".
Someimes I find it frustrating with the slow but steady but I am not hungry and am really put off by "fatty" foods. For the first time I walked past a chip-shop in our town and the smell was uuuerghhhh....Normally I would be drooling.

It has also been easier because my husband has had to diet not because of weight but because of cholestoral and that has been a challenge to keep the calories going while reducing the fat but lo 2 points off.

if you look up Tim Ferris, he's the author and founder of the 4 hour body. He's a bit of a fanatic, but he looks amazing. His blog is really great and inspirational.

The Slow Carb seems to go hand in hand with what some people call Glycemic indexing. So rather than cut carbs out completely, you pick and choose certain kinds that break down more slowly so your body doesn't go into overload and bulk up, or react. It has a chance to break it down over time and therefore utilize it, rather than store it.

I'm back on the wagon to drop 10 lbs. For me, this requires calorie counting, food measuring, stringent carb control, and going to bed feeling hungry.

I'm also, for the millionth time, quitting diet soda! I had one tuesday, and a few sips of hubbies yesterday. Goal for today is zero diet soda. Going to try to switch my beverage addiction to green tea, no sweeteners.

bah. I ordered some new jeans from the place my favorite ones are from.
One pair, fits like a glove
one pair is a bit snug, but Im working on that.
the last pair... I couldnt even get them past my knees! What the heck!? Drives me nuts! All of them are the same size!
This aspect of clothing drives me nuts! (I work in the fashion industry and have always had this complaint) it just doesn't make sense!
URG!! and of course, it doesn't help with the esteem.

I'm joining! I've got 15 more to go. I go in for my weigh-in on Friday, and I KNOW that I will be below 160. I'd get butt naked to get below that number finally! Today, I danced for one hour in my dance/gymnastics education class, and I'll be dancing again with my roomie tonight. That is my activity for the day! :)

last night was my first class after surgery. It felt so good to be active again!
Im even a bit sore today from the workout! :) YAY! Now, if only I had remembered to NOT drink black tea on an empty stomach..... *hoarf* Im trying to get past that feeling with sipping water and a new cup of green tea. I'd like to avoid eating half a bagel to settle my stomach.
Ive been sooooooo good eating clean, and small the last few days, that I don't want to ruin it.

I thought I'd post these, same photographer, a year apart. BIG difference! The Burgundy was taken on Sunday! Atkins diet - 25 lbs down. I went a bit below the 20, and actually want to wittle another 15 off too... but I feel a difference! Save for some dark undereyes circles and lighting adjustment, I haven't been photoshopped in size. I swear!
