me too!!! I've been trying to lose 15-20lbs for the last few years (I'm not stuck on those numbers though, I'm going to gauge it on how I look as I start to lose more then the number...)

I have to run off the the studio but I'll be back later to share some of the things I plan to do. :)

Re: Weight Loss Support 20 lbs or less?

Well, I cut out Diet Dr. Peppers! It was so hard!!! I had a headache for 4 days. Now I drink tea with splenda. Water,Water,Water.....

I have started to half everything on my plate when the family goes out to eat and put it in a "to go" box first. That way, I don't get tempted to just eat it all. Saw a video on my google page of shedding the winter pounds for spring. Wrote that down and plan on using that to guide me. Focused on portion control and servings of carbs, protein, diary, fats, unlimited lowfat veges. And to eat stuff that is in season.

My husband and I started walking a mile a day. Most of the time...
Got the P90X,but it was recommended to finish another program first, before getting hardcore. I need to lose about 20. I've set my goals in 5lbs increments. That way, it's not so overwhelming.

Re: Weight Loss Support 20 lbs or less?

I've got about 15-17 pounds to lose. I gained 20 before I was finally diagnosed with a thyroid condition (Hashimoto's disease), and now that my thyroid is getting under control, I need to get my body back! I've struggled to lose weight my entire adult life, and I was finally happy where I was! Stupid Hashimoto's.

I know I've lost a few pounds in the last couple of months (as my endocrinologist and I are working to stabilize my hormone levels), but I'm not exactly sure how many- I've been focusing on eating better (darned jelly beans!) and exercising and dancing more, rather than what the scale says. But the elastic in one of my costumes needs to be tightened a smidge, so that's progress!

I'm not doing any particular program, just trying to eat well, dance a lot, and exercise beyond dancing. I have a backyard garden (things are just starting to come up in my cold frame), a Community Garden plot, and 2 VERY active young boys, so I know there won't be a problem moving a lot this summer!

Re: Weight Loss Support 20 lbs or less?

... to continue my last post...

been trying to lose the last 10-20 for a while. my problem is I LOOOVVVEE food... all foods... especially the fatty sugary ones! :P But I also know that I have a bad habit of snacking when I'm bored, eating late at night, etc. For me it really is the eating habits that have to change because exercise wise I'm pretty active (teaching 6-12 classes a week plus rehearsals and shows...), but of course I could do more.

Last summer I started a serious workout and eating plan. Cut out a lot of calories and was working out hard core for 2 hours everyday. I had a trainer to help me as well. I lost about 12lbs in 6 months and gained a lot of muscle. The problem was I was doing too much weight training and I became bulky, a look I didn't like. And the place where I wanted to lose weight the most - my belly - didn't really change!! it was so frustrating.

After a relationship breakup right before Christmas I fell off track with my workouts/eating and gained everything back :(

so now my new plan is to start eating healthy again, cut out almost all carbs/sugar. I'm going to eat reasonable portions and cut out the snacking. I need to start running again and taking cardio classes, and I want to do pilates 2-3 times a week to hopefully gain lean muscle.

a couple things that I find help:
-weekly/monthly weigh ins (just to keep track)
    -writing down everything you eat

so I'm going to start over again. Hopefully get to where I want to be within the year.

Re: Weight Loss Support 20 lbs or less?

I thought I'd jump in on this thread as I have about 15 lbs. or so to lose.

I'm a teacher and had a part-time job as a personal trainer at a gym last year when I fell stepping out of the T-bar row and landed on a stack of metal plate weights. Shattered my elbow and pretty much ended my personal training job.

Had to take about 2 mos off of work due to surgeries + recovery time (and a dumb rule at my school that doesn't allow teachers to return to work until COMPLETELY recovered) and couldn't exercise at all. My doctor wouldn't even let me briskly walk as it could have jarred my elbow.

Anyways, gained about 20 lbs due to depression, inactivity, and boredom. I've lost about 5 lbs so far. I have the knowledge to get it done - I just need to buckle down and focus!

    Good luck to everyone!

I know, its so not fair! :(
but I think part of the problem for me was just over-doing it with weights and bulking up everywhere when I really needed to do more cardio... even though I've been told gaining muscle burns more fat, I guess I just have to gain muscle properly (if that makes sense ??)

I'll sacrifice the boobs for the flat tummy though, I can always get some enhancements later... haha! ;)

Re: Weight Loss Support 20 lbs or less?

I NEED to make myself a chart so I can stay focused and organized. I did that after my last baby and it helped me a lot with my scattered mom brain and not it's worse with an infant and 3 year old.

I would like to ultimately lose 20lbs but 15lbs or even 10 would be just fine. I am frustrated because I don't have much to wear and I don't want to buy all new clothes. I'm nursing the little one so that is an auto-calorie burner but I also need to get moving. It' just finding the energy and motivation for it. I have my little on in the front pack and we dance around the house a lot. I'm also trying to stretch out when I have a few minutes.

I need to rebuild my stamina and my shimmies are hard to keep going. It's more the egyptian knee shimmy that isn't working so well right now. I think my hips are still to flexible.

I'm shooting for 20 pushups (man style without the bent knee)
    50 crunches
    50 bicycle crunches

I need to find my chart from before and see what else I was doing. I really like BodyRockTv on youtube and on her website because she has short workouts that don't usually require equipment. I already have the interval timer.

I'm also trying to make myself eat salad. I LOVE greens and veggies it's just making the time for all the chopping.

oh another thing I like is taking Before photos and then (hopefully) getting to the after pictures. Put the before photo along with other inspirational goal photos up where you'll see them a lot... This sounds like it might be depressing to see the before photo all the time but I find it motivating!

also, maybe we should commit to checking in on this thread each week and talking about how we are doing?? Feeling like you'll have to "confess" at the end of the week might make you stronger against the chocolate temptations mon-sat! :p

also, give yourself a cheat day to eat whatever you want each week.

No chart yet but I did some ab exercises and shimmy drills today. I love Suhaila's 20 minute songs!

I also shared my cake with my son so I had about 1/3 of the whole portion and I gave my take home stuff to my aunts so I wouldn't be tempted.

I like your suggestion. I tried to suggest a monthly weigh-in on the other weight thread, as I've found that my weight tends to yoyo over the course of a month (e.g. this month I started at 145lbs, made it down to 140lbs YAY and seemed to have settled at 143lbs. BOO!)

But a weekly chat on how we're doing? That might help. I sure would feel on the spot if I had to 'fess up to no exercise or lots of cake one week!
I'd like to give you some moral advice, but I have questionable morals.

hahaha! exactly, I find it helps me stay determined to not slip up.

After a disastrous Easter weekend of stuffing my face I'm starting again today back on my meal plan. This week I am easing in to it with my old meal plan which is reduced portions, 3 meals, 3 healthy snacks a day, only whole wheat cards. But I think next week I will take out almost all carbs and see how it goes.

Btw, if anyone wants a copy of my meal plan and some recipes PM me with your email address and I'll send it over!

Re: Weight Loss Support 20 lbs or less?

Joining in as that's about the right amount for me. 4 gone and 16 to go preferably by July.
Last time I lost a similar amount, I dined on stir fries and fruit. Tried it again and got bored (but it may work for some) This time I am plumping for (cowardly i know) those wicked calorie counted ready meals. I shan't stay on them for ever..it is just so easy.
A good start to the day I believe is porridge..good old oats.
Never one for fatty things nor over sweet, I really have to watch the carbs and the portion control ..hence the ready meals!

Re: Weight Loss Support 20 lbs or less?

Great thread ladies - I've got 6 pesky kilos that just don't seem to want to leave home! I've done Dukkan and South Beach and spent a fortune on personal trainers with virtually nothing to show for it. Then a friend recommended Jillian Michael's 30 day Shred dvd. I'm on Level 3 (Day 21) of the Shred and while JM's a tyrant and its hard work its fantastic! I'm seeing results and feeling great. We're in the middle of a house move and while I was clearing out I found a dvd for beginners yoga by a bloke named Alan Finger so I've started doing his yoga practice after finishing the Shred workout.

I love steel cut oats soaked overnight. They seem to cook faster and are a bit creamier in texture. I've been livening them up with cinnamon, nutmeg and a bit of vanilla. Do you add anything? I'm getting a bit bored with my way of making them.

A couple of things that helped greatly with this and other post-baby lack of time: DON'T CHOP THE FOOD. Just wash it and toss in a bowl for snacking. I take my uncut, unshaved carrots and whole peppers and snap peas and whole green beans to work and just mac on them all day. You won't even notice them disappearing until you reach into the bowl and find...nothing.

Or just buy the pre-cut stuff. Just buy it. You don't have to buy it for the rest of your life if it seems decadent. Consider it a short term relationship with no strings.

Other suggestion that worked for me was prepping a week's worth of stuff at once. My lunches, the babies' nosh for the daycare, anything that I could reduce to a mass production line. It takes just a little more time once a week and a whole lot less brain power and stressing about lack of time.

are steel cut oats the same as oatmeal?... sorry if that is a silly question :P

if it is similar to oatmeal, try adding dry fruit (apricots, cranberry..) YUM! or some chopped nuts.

I always put peanut butter in my oats.

I never thought there was anything odd about it (Doesn't EVERYONE do this? LOL) until about 3 people at work gave me weird looks. They did admit it sounded pretty tasty - and it is!

Also, you can use oats to make an overnight muesli of sorts. Mix 1/2 c raw oats, some cottage cheese, greek yogurt, and berries (I use blueberries - but any kind works I think) in a bowl and leave it in your fridge overnight. In the morning, top it with cinnamon and splenda (if you like - I always add a little peanut butter on top ) and dig in. Easy breakfast.

Re: Weight Loss Support 20 lbs or less?

hey guys! I'm in too! I only have about 5 pounds to lose, but it's all mental for me. I know I can do it, and I always say I'm going to do it. and then I say "well its just 5 pounds, I can stand that..."

my plan of attack is to run with my dog 5-6 times a week--even if it's just 2 miles to the dog park (roundtrip) and...here's what I think will really do it for me: I'm going to go Vegan this summer. yep, not even vegetarian, but vegan. June 1 is my start day, august 31 is my end day. anyone want to try with me?

I think we should do weekly check ins to say how we did for the week and short term goals for the next week. heck even checking in daily might work too, if that's what you need to keep to your goals! (I might need to).

    Blueberries/Bananas/Strawberries

I make them with water of course..a little skimmed milk on the top and a tiny sprinkling of demerera sugar. Otherwise no..I like my Scotts original..

Re: Weight Loss Support 20 lbs or less?

I'm in. I need to lose around 10 - 15 lbs. I've been contemplating how I want to accomplish this goal and have decided to try P90. Not the X version, 'cause there's nothing X about me. If P90 works well for me, perhaps I'll try the X. I ordered it earlier today. Hopefully within the next week I'll receive it and can get started. This weekend I plan on getting the SO to take some before pics so I have something to compare my results to.

In late March, I had the Zeltiq procedure done on my lower tummy. I'm just now thinking I'm starting to see some results. I was thinking of having another treatment done on my upper tummy, but have decided to give P90 a whirl for awhile to see if that helps with the belly pudginess.
