    Re: Has anyone here...

I haven't had to deal with 100 lbs but I am dealing with 40 lbs of weight loss. I got rid of 10 lbs last year and am working on the next 30. It's very slow going and trying at times no matter how much weight you need to shed. I recommend focusing more on measurements and less on weight while you're doing this. Weight will fluctuate wildly sometimes and make you think that your hard work that week didn't amount to anything, but it does. Your measurements will steadily shrink and you'll be building good habits and feeling better. The biggest piece of advice I can give you is to stick with your new eating and workout habits... don't skip a single day. It takes 90 days to form a habit (though once you get past 2 weeks things get better too), so just stick with whatever you're doing, do it everyday, so that you can form that habit. It seems like when I missed a day (usually by lame excuse), I would fall off the wagon for a bit... sometimes a month! But if you stick with it, no excuses, everyday, you'll make progress. And like I said before, it helps to measure and weigh yourself at the end of every week and write it all down so that you can see your progress. It will give you an extra motivational boost... hey look what I did, wow I lost this much already, I'm going to keep going! It also helps to focus on the fitness and health aspects of your eating and workout changes... feeling better and more energetic is a result in and of itself.

Good luck on your journey. You can definitely do it!

Not personally, but I've helped a very close friend on their journey. It's not just about the weight, as you know. You will learn so much more about yourself, find new strengths and release old things you don't need to hold onto any more. It is really a journey.

Good for you! I lost 55 lbs. 4 1/2 yrs ago. A support group helps. The first few weeks are the hardest, until it becomes routine. Don't be a perfectionist, if you mess up, just get right back on your program. Wishing you the best!

Hey Tia! Good for you! I've lost about 70lbs over the last 5-6 years and my weight's basically stabalized at a place I'm happy with.
Everyone's given you great advice so far and I'll add to it the things that have been most helpful for me...... patience, persistence, and hard work! There is no quick fix to long term, healthy weight loss so enjoy the process and do whatever it takes to make it fun and positive for you. A good diet and exercise will not only make the results happen but will make you feel amazing. You *will* learn so much about yourself-- rock on!

I lost 130 lbs. solely though changes in my lifestyle (quitting junk food, smoking, and television, taking up dancing) and have managed to keep most of it off for over 5 years. My advice is, be gentle with yourself! Don't be discouraged if you don't see any progress at first, and don't beat yourself up if you slip. There is a most wonderful book called Eating in the Light of the Moon by Anita Johnston. It's directed toward women who suffer from disordered eating, but it's really about so much more. I have found it to be helpful and comforting and highly recommend it for any woman who struggles with food and body image (and my DH thinks it should be required reading for all men, to help them understand and help the women in their lives). Amazon.com: Eating in the Light of the Moon: How Women Can Transform Their Relationship with Food Through Myths, Metaphors, and Storytelling (9780936077369): Anita A. Johnston PhD.: Books Best of luck to you!

    Re: Has anyone here...

I haven't had to lose that much weight but have met quite a few people who did when I was involved with the body for life community. I've seen a lot of evidence that it can be done and there has been some great advise in this thread so far.

From my own experience I think the change needs to start from within first. So addressing any personal issues that have contributed to your current state and finding strong emotional motivators to make the change.

As someone else has mention, surround yourself with positive people who will support you.

I would also recommend a couple few books by Bill Phillips ( and no I'm not making money out of this )
