    fuzzy straight hair?

    hi.

I was hoping for some tips or product recommendations from you guys. I have fine, bra-length hair that is mostly straight, but gets very fuzzy sometimes, especially in humid weather. I'd love to have that sleek, glossy look, and have tried several frizz control glosses and sprays, but nothing seems to work. I'm afraid to flat-iron my hair very often because I don't want to damage it. Also, I don't want my hair to get too flat or weighed down with heavy product. Any tips or recommendations?

I have the same problem when it's humid (my friends call it "Irish girl fro" lol). I use Aussie awesome volume mousse just sparingly near the roots when my hair is still wet. Works pretty good for me.

There's also a cream that they make that works pretty well too... can't remember the name of it.

I love using Moroccan oil for my fine curly frizz as well for the times when I straighten. Straitening with a ceramic flat iron will also help to smooth.

No help here, I'm pretty hair product free these days but I'll be watching. I dye my hair jet black (natural color is light brown with eeeeek.....white). It's those wiry little dyed white hairs that escape and randomly stand on end, waving at everyone.

Those are just your belated natural curl kicking in!

In my experience heat and serums are the only thing that produce gloss on hair that is otherwise not glossy.

Oh and if you want gloss, make sure you rinse your hair with cold water in the shower when you're done with your shower routine. Cold water makes the scales that comprise your hair close up creating strength and shine. And if you can stand it, doing a vinegar rinse (after shampooing and before conditioning) in the shower every once and a while can help give you shine too. These are all tricks I got from the long hair forum and have used with success on my fine waist length hair. I've read that dying with henna or cassia can also give you nice shine and strength, but I haven't tried that since I like my hair color.

A heavy anti-frizz serum before drying (and straight ironing TO HELL) is what I use to keep my Crystal Tipps hair in check. NOT such a good choice for fine or limp hair, though - weighty!

I use Moroccan Oil too, and it's great for keeping hair smooth and sleek without adding much weight. Also, cool rinse after washing, every time (as cold as you can stand it - rinsing over a sink or something upside down is a good way to get a cold rinse without having to shiver under an icy shower!).

a wee tiny bit of coconut oil. and by a "wee bit" i mean a fingernail dragged across the surface of the jar and then melted between your hands and smoothed over your hair.

Someone else said it, but it sounds like belated curls/wave showing up.
Have a go at using something like Deva Curl products for one complete styling (wash, condition, style. no heat) and see what happens.

That's how i figured it out too :)

And don't use heat!!!!!! it'll just make any damage you may have worse and make it fuzzier in the end.

I have fine, frizzy, Irish hair that has a bit of a wave, The best product I have found to tame the fizz is Bumble and Bumble Straight Blow Dry. It is pricey; it's about $35 a tube but it works great! Shockingly so. It is heat activated and it leaves my hair straight and glossy. My only problem is that it is heavily perfumed (smells great) and I have issues with scents. So I bought the travel size (much cheaper) and only use it on special occasions.

This may seem weird, but might work for you too: http://www.amazon.com/Razac-Perfect-...ef=pd_sim_bt_1
Perfect for Perms - conditioning/finishing creme

I don't have a perm and I started using this after blow-drying/flat ironing my fine, curly hair and it really helps to smooth out the stragglers.

    Re: fuzzy straight hair?

I have the same frustrating hair issues and the same ethnic background. I've found all the suggestions here are helpful in some climates, however, there are certain climates where, after 20 minutes or so, the frizz takes over and no matter what fabulous product you've used, you've got the unattractive frizz happening. For me personally, the San Francisco, CA weather is a prime example of a place where nothing I do to my hair lasts for more than 20 minutes in the "elements."

So if you are experiencing something similar, you might find (like I have), that you can arrange your natural hair with the above product(s) in many climates, but due to the porosity of your hair, there are instances when the results you achieve are temporary and you will save time and trouble and look fabulous by simply adding hairpieces/extensions, etc. - just view them as part of your costume and free yourself from worrying about what the moisture in the air will do to your hair, knowing when you dress and look in the mirror, that is what people will see one, two, or four hours from then.

Also Irish with fine frizzy hair, I agree with the girls on the cold water rinse and hair oils. I finally stopped using heat on my hair- No more blow dryers or irons. I find that if I pin lightly gelled hair into a twisted bun when damp, it drys sleek with nice waves.

    Re: fuzzy straight hair?

I recently had a keratin treatment at the salon, and it might help you too. It's a keratin-based conditioner that the salon puts through your hair, and dries in without rinsing. The keratin "sets" in your hair with the heat.

Major downside: You need to NOT wash your hair for three days afterwards. This might be unbearable for you - it was tough for me, and I leave my hair without washing for three days pretty regularly!

Major pro, though - it seals off your hair A LOT. It's smoother, softer, and MUCH more resistant to moisture and frizz. (Also halves drying time, for anybody with long or thick hair that takes FOREVERto dry).

Mine came in at about $170 NZD (including long hair surcharge [HATE] and $50 or so of after-treatment shampoo and conditioner [SUCKER])

Just thought I'd come back and mention it!

"fuzzy straight hair" sounds like hair that is really wavy or curly but has been treated like straight hair. Have you tried the "curly girl" method on it? It might be worth trying for a few weeks to see what happens. Here is a general guide to the method:

I did it. It's amazing and it's only my first week. My hair is shiny, soft with beautiful waves. And it takes such little effort. I've had two compliments already.

Well, hell, I was gonna come here and say that my hair is super straight and thick and awesome but if I wash it too frequently - i.e. without waiting for at least a day or two - then it goes wha-BAM! and frizzes and gets static-y and sticks in odd positions, because my entire home state is basically a hot, dry wind turbine.

Also, conditioner... I'll only use it once every couple months when I'm patient enough to deal with wha-BAM for the next two days.

So, OP, if you're still bothered, you could try not washing your hair as often. Apparently we're actually only supposed to wash it once or twice a week (and that's actually pushing it...) because of how much oil shampoo will strip from your hair.

I just explained this to two friends and they both made an "Ew" face. Your hair tries to preserve homeostasis, so if you wash it less, eventually, your hair will produce less oil, and your hair will stop getting dreadlock-greasy within two days if you're patient. I promise.
