Thread: Identifying crystals

Hi all,
I was wondering if any of you know how to identify a crystal by just looks... whether it's AB, Swarovski, plastic, glass, or real crystal?
I have a costume from Egypt with some lovely crystals on it, which I think are AB (they have a colorful reflection in the interior). I was going to post the costume on ebay, and am not sure how to describe them.
Would appreciate any advice! Thanks!

Well, I bet if you post some pics we could help you identify what they are. Real swarovskis have a glassy appearance to them, whereas plastic looks much more opaque. You can tell if a crystal has an AB coating on it if you can see hints of green, pink, blue and yellow light shooting out from it. Plastic crystals don't have AB coatings. A regular, non AB coated crystal will appear to have silver and white gleaming inside.
But again, I bet some bhuzzers here would be able to tell you what kind of crystals you have if you can post a pic of a closeup of a crystal..
