Re: Huh?
Looks like she got lost on the way to the Fetish Ball!
I like the costume in a different context...
Applauding the vision that she had in her head for this number.

Re: Huh?
Bleh. What in the world was she thinking by wearing this number? Is that a burlesque costume or something?

Re: Huh?
Getting past the costume, she does ok undulations and chest lift/drops, though hip infinities need work (up, out, down, in), and chest circles as does facial expression of pain interspersed with boredom, and the flailing weak arms and LEAVE the hair alone!
For an amateur, at a student hafla, would be ok. Rennisance dancer (does a bit of everything and nothing very good)
Now, for the costume. Not my style. I looks like a take off combination of Brazilian and east coast tribal/hiphop fusion.

Re: Huh?
The costume is very Parisian can-can dancing.

Re: Huh?
So many of these clueless little Rachel Brice wannabes running around - if you wanna do burlesque, do burlesque. Your mother might be embarrassed but nobody else would care.
Too much of this sloppy poorly thought out fusion. There seems to be a huge movement towards what I'd call vaudeville dancing or Vegas club dancing that's stilll being called bellydancing. If you use techno music, dance club costuming and a mostly non-middle eastern movement vocabulary, it's not belly dancing. Really.
As I've said before, I AM a grumpy old fart and proud of it.

Gals, I believe the dancer in this clip is Nera from the San Francisco area. Nera is also a costume designer and has a background designing Burlesque costumes. Mystery solved, I think.

Re: Huh?
That costume is hor-ib-ble!! When I first saw it, I thought, hey, I've seen another dancer with a costume like...WTF!. It took me awhile to wrap my mind around it. I think the audience was just being nice in the very beginning, unless they just have bad taste! I think the costume just ruined the dance all together. She wasn't that bad at dancing, but the costume is distracting. That is why costumes are VERY important. Not the most important, obviously, but a big factor.

Re: Huh?
This makes me think of the thread about how far is too far when it comes to fusion.
In my opinion, this performance has gone too far. Too far in costume and too far in the performance. There was no connection between the costume and the dancing. This performance is what I consider as having no point, no vision. Just a slapdash of stuff mixed together. Maybe she was going for burlesque... dunno. Also in my opinion, there is a fine line between burlesque and pointless tackiness.
Okay... I'll be nice and commend her for experimenting with the backbend and trying to get out if it the best way that she could think of. She did it and maybe next time she can refine it.
Sheesh... at least she could've worn some shorts under the belt and not just panties. It would be completely different if she fused Brazillian steps in her dance but, this isn't the case.

Re: Huh?
having gone through multiple hurtful comments on a video of mine, I will only add this to this thread.
This is a dancer.
According to others reports, this is a costumer.
What I know, this is someone who put herself out there, for good or for ill, but how would you feel if it were you and you came across this thread?- A deeply desired goal gives context to present experience... M. Stanton Jones

Re: Huh?
Anybody who puts a video of themselves on any public place on internet should be ready for all kinds of comments. And that`s not limited to bellydancing. If not prepared for that, just don`t put it out on the web.As much as it can sound harsh,it`s the truth of placing a video out in public for the whole World Wide Web to watch.
