Re: Ulta brand Minerals kit?
I never had experience with it, as I tend to stick with Bare Minerals or Jane Iredale. Is there any indication of the ingredients (talc, mica) or how it's milled?
I think if you find it is effective, stick with it, especially for stretch marks! Many women try to figure out how to cover them! You mean, you use both products to cover stretch marks? What kind of stretch marks? The dark or the light?
I'm curious!

Re: Ulta brand Minerals kit?
of course it covers the light ones better but you can barely see the dark ones and if you apply it like 3 times they practaly dissapear......try it! I used it on my tummy and hips and i like it. I can now wear my costume lower on my hips and not be so self concious

Re: Ulta brand Minerals kit?
And it's a mineral-based foundation? Like all powder? That's fascinating! And wonderful! It doesn't come off on your costumes or when you perspire?

Re: Ulta brand Minerals kit?
How do you apply it (kabuki brush? regular brush? sponge?)? Sorry I'm so freaky with the questions! I like to know about things to add to the makeup arsenal. ;0)

Re: Ulta brand Minerals kit?
FIrst I have to thank you ladies!!!!
Because of all the different threads and posts I just had to try Bare Minerals---
I've been unhappy for a long time with my makeup finds, looking for "the right one"
I tried it and am now totally hooked, thrilled to pieces, and broke of course
from buying too much at once LOL! But it is just what I was looking for.
I am curious about the difference between it and the Ulta brand though?
Would love to hear what you think now.....
and Azhia, since I'm a newbie, how do I go about applying the foundation with a sponge?

Re: Ulta brand Minerals kit?
I love love love Everyday Minerals. I get nothing from recommending them, and have not experienced many of the other brands (though it can be tempting) because I am so happy with them (quality, price, & customer service).
Satisfied customer + teeny plug.

Re: Ulta brand Minerals kit?
Stick with whaaaaat works for you, especially if all the stars are aligned in your favor with that product!
Anisah, you're interested in applying the mineral foundation with a sponge?
I think (anybody else please pipe in!) your best bet is to dip it in product, pat onto the skin, and then brush excess off/blend with a large brush. Alcone sponges ROCK MY WORLD b/c they are latex-free and biodegradable. Invariably, with the mineral-based foundations, brushes come into play for application. A sponge will give you a super matte finish and deposit some serious pigment for coverage.

Re: Ulta brand Minerals kit?
That's the brand I use too! LOVE!!! It's cheaper than Bare Minerals and doesn't have Bismuth, which I'm allergic to. The eyeshadows and blush are really nice, too. Very pigmented.
Once you find something that works for you, stick with it. It can be so frustrating to find that perfect product though!

Re: Ulta brand Minerals kit?
Me, three, on the Everyday Minerals. I got so tired of feeling like my face was bogged down with oils from liquid makeup. Plus, it's so much easier to apply! It doesn't seem to provide as much coverage as the liquids, but my skin is pretty good. I just ordered a couple of their brushes. Maybe that will help with coverage. I have some of their sample foundations and I'm trying to decide which works best for my skin tone. I also have some of their blushes, eye shadows and a lip gloss and all those are great!

Re: Ulta brand Minerals kit?
Are any of the other brands less shimmery than Bare Minerals? I have some of the latter and while I like the ease of applying a powder foundation and it's a good match for my skin, I always feel a little too "reflective" when I wear it. I know a lot of foundations now include light reflecting or diffusing particles to give you a glow and fuzz out your lines, but I'm not convinced they're the best thing for me -- I start feeling a little moon-faced as soon as I put the stuff on. (Ya amar!)
On the other hand Studio Fix is about the mattest matte I know and I fear it makes me look dead, so maybe I'm just hard to please.

Re: Ulta brand Minerals kit?
I use the Ulta brand miinerals and love them. I espeically like their eye shadows and eye liners. I've not tried them on stretch marks so I don't know if they will "sweat off", but they've been great on my face so far.

Re: Ulta brand Minerals kit?
Bastet - for higher coverage areas I use the Bare Essentials brush (I think it's a concealer brush?)...smaller, more tightly bound brushes will work for more coverage. There's also a heavy coverage version too, if I recall correctly. Because I get occasional rosacia outbreaks, I also use a cream concealer by Vincent Longo.
Zana - Everyday Minerals has various types of coverage. I use the matte version which has little to no sparkles and is somewhat heavier. It doesn't leave your face looking flat, though. It works well!

Re: Ulta brand Minerals kit?
another total everyday minerals convert here.
bastet - if you didn't already, i would recommend getting their "premium foundation brush" for a little more coverage. i have had great luck with it if i load it as usual for mineral makeup (dip, tap off excess, yadda yadda yadda) and then apply it with short upward strokes -- especially over the middle of the face where my pores are a little bigger. (i have pores at all only before makeup, that is, heheh)

Re: Ulta brand Minerals kit?
Tip! If you decide to order their make-up, or whenever you order anything from them, remember to get a sample kit each time! Just tack it on to your order. It is a free and easy way to try out new colors/shades, or to get extra of what you know you love.
I am extra excited because I got an order delivered today, and I got a sample kit with some new shades, plus they sent me a free gift of three brushes and two full sized eye-shadows, both of which I like a whole lot and will definitely use.
So today? My make-up scratch has been ITCHED!

Re: Ulta brand Minerals kit?
Ashadanzatrice - I did order the premium foundation brush as an afterthought. I was going for the long-handled kabuki, but decided to throw another one in since it wasn't much more.
Monica - I didn't think about asking for more samples. I had so many already that I didn't feel that I needed more, but I suppose it wouldn't have hurt!

Re: Ulta brand Minerals kit?
*kicking self for not thinking of this*!!!
So thanks to this and some other similar threads, I decided to give Everyday Minerals a try. I fell in love with Bare Minerals, but have that bismuth allergy. Tried multiple other brands, and was dissatisfied until I found Aromaleigh. I have been using Aromaleigh for over two years now, happily, but in reading these threads on Everyday Minerals thought, "What the heck. The samples are free!" and ordered some EM.
I have been wearing it all week, and really really like it. Enough to order a larger sampler kit and keep wearing it in an extended experiment phase. And enough to seek out this thread to add my two cents.
During my test phase, I have not worn my usual primer, or any finishing sprays of any kind, to see how it feels and wears without any "help". Things I have noted:
(for reference, I am using the "original glo" formula at present)
1) Not as much coverage as BM or AL, but still buildable. This might be helped with a primer, which tends to help with coverage for me. I have ruddy cheeks and by the end of the day, I could see them more than I had with my AL. In any case, it blends right into my skin and looks really really natural. 'See me, not the makeup' kind of natural. Even up close it is hard to tell I have anything on. I LOVE THAT!
2) I love the glow of the original glo. It is what I loved about BM, and didn't have so much of with AL and missed. EM has it in spades, and it's lovely. If this isn't up your alley, they have matte and semi-matte formulas, as well as intensive (which I think is for very oily skin, and is more matte than matte??), and they have a line of finishing powders as well.
3) I love the packaging. Yep, I can be a sucker for pretty packages, it's true! The little printed brown lids are aesthetically pleasing to me. :)
4) The price! It's even less expensive than my beloved AL! And lots of freebies and samples and...a head could spin right off, I tell you.
5) Less transfer. I remember being shocked when I tried BM that I could wipe a tissue over my face after applying it and it would barely leave a trace. With AL, it would leave a decent swath--not too bad, but more than I would have liked. EM is more like BM in the no-transfer department.

Re: Ulta brand Minerals kit?
6) Smoooth. This is something all my top mineral products have in common, but I want to drive home that EM also has that silky-smooth to the touch feel on my face. One thing not all mineral makeups have is a creamy texture. How can minerals feel creamy?? Don't ask me! But in my casting about period two years ago, I came across several brands that were powdery feeling, and wanted the creamy feel that BM had. Well, EM has that creaminess, too.
7) Bismuth free. HOORAY! I can't hack the bismuth, which is how I moved to AL in the first place. Great to find another product I can enjoy without it!
8) Better pigments in the shadows! One thing I was not a fan of with my BM or AL experiences were the weak pigments in the shadows. Yes, some days I want to look au naturale, but other days I am rockin' the clubs, and I don't want to have to have 15 different products to get the looks I want. Well, unfortunately, the color options aren't all that great with EM--all really light and natural, with few exceptions--but the pigments are much stronger and they last well! My AL has tons and tons of shadow colors, and promise this intensity of pigment, but never ever delivered, and wore off really fast, even with lid primer on! So I am eager to try more shadows from EM, and hopefully they will develop some more funky color palettes!
I bet I went over the word limit again...damn am I verbose!
Yep, I did, so here is the split report!

Re: Ulta brand Minerals kit?
Thanks for the report! All this info is good for everyone to know!
Minerals can be creamy depending on how much they are milled (ground). The more they are milled, the creamier. The best is triple-milled minerals.
I had the same problem with weak pigments in the BM shadows. I found that applying them wet takes care of that problem. Once dry you can continue to blend. They make great eye liners that way, too.

Re: Ulta brand Minerals kit?
Ack! Nobody warned me that the EM website takes PayPal! .w.:
I can see getting myself into some serious trouble over there, especially with the reasonable prices making all of it that much more tempting. Thanks for the recommendations and tips, folks.

Re: Ulta brand Minerals kit?
Zana- I have foud with my kit that if I apply too much of the foundation i look shiny like you say, I would do only 1 sweep with the brush and then cover up the flaws with the smaller brush and then sweep the entire face with no powder and you look natural and not shiny.....I did 2-3 sweeps with the powder and i looked very shiny

Re: Ulta brand Minerals kit?
i use the intensive. it's actually not super matte, and i'm not very oily (combo). i think it's just a little more coverage. on me, it has a bit of glow. if i want, i go completely matte by blotting on a little of the silk finishing powder (cause how opulent to think that i'm putting pure powdered silk on my face!).
my weakness are the mini eyeshadows. $2.50? that's like a godiva truffle with no calories!! so far i have about 15... and almost all of them are so pigmented, they'll last forever. (shopping spree, comfy, in the garden, and starry eyed are my favorite darker hues. mystic night would be a cool clubbing color, too.)Last edited by ashadanzatrice; 01-14-2008 at 09:24 PM.

Re: Ulta brand Minerals kit?
Don't tell me this! I want sooo many colors!
*running to buy more shadows*
*sigh*
Oh and thanks for the info on the Intensive. If it has more coverage, I really must try it! Because that is my last lingering complaint--that it doesn't have the coverage of the other mineral products I have enjoyed. I will pop one into my next sample order!
ACK! There is a 10 mini-shadows for $18!! That is less than $2 per shadow!
