    Makeup Primer

Since we're on makeup, what's the best type of primer to use underneath foundation? I need to buy some good primer, what I'm using now is worthless (Vital Radiance).

I'm in the process of upgrading my makeup case, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Best primer on the planet.

I use it for myself as well as for my makeup clients.

    Poop!
DHC Skincare and Makeup: Olive Oil based beauty from Japan, search for VELVET SKIN COAT.
DHC is a company out of Japan that makes olive oil-based cleansers, moisturizers, and a whole host of other things.
Their primers is the best in my professional opinion.
I've used Smashbox, too. They have great color corrected primers which I use underneath foundations. I feel they don't give as solid a coverage as DHC, however.
You might have to try several that work for you. I've never been disappointed with DHC and I've tried Smashbox, Makeup Forever, and Mac.
As for eyeshadow primer I really like Mary Kay's!

I didn't think I had either, then I realized that they have sent me some samples in the past. And I wasted my sample of velvet skin coat at the time......cr.:

I just ordered the catalog with the free samples. I hope one of them is the velvet skin coat.

Heee...Once you place an order you get to pick I think 4 samples as well. I use all my samples for traveling so I don't have to lug big bottles of product!

I hope one of your samples is the Velvet Skin Coat as well.

Everyone I've used it on has commented on how luxurious it feels. It's quite light weight but gives awesome coverage and your foundation (powder, cream, liquid) glides on like buttah!

    Re: Makeup Primer

Azhia, what are the ingredients of that primer? Is it silicone based? I know that silicone based hair products will eventually dry out the hair, and the Mac primer feels like it's silicone based to me. My favorite is Ultima 11 primer for keeping the oil at bay, but it sounds like your recommendation might be worth a try.

    Re: Makeup Primer

    Vilia,

It is silicone based. I prefer it for skin, rather than hair, as I am aware that silicone can be drying. Which is why I moisturize just before using the Velvet Skin Coat.

I also at times, blend the VSC with Aveda's Hydrating Masque to create a moisturizing primer.

Silicone-based products, especially as a primer, do not seep into the skin, they create a layer that lays on the surface which helps everything else you put on top apply more smoothly.

Plus, at the end of the day, you can actually REMOVE everything. If you notice no product in your makeup removal ritual, then the product is seeping into the skin.

The MAC primer feels too runny to me and filled with other liquids. VSC is dense but extremely lightweight. I'd give it a shot if you're interested in trying a new primer, but if the Ultima 11 works for you, stick with it! :0)

    Re: Makeup Primer

The primer that I have now is utterly worthless, and I also use moistureizer underneath it. So, hopefully, Velvet Skin Coat will be one of the samples. Maybe I'll call customer service and ask them to make sure that it's included in my order.

    Oui oui!

Makeup is going to be one of those things where you end up trying several varieties of the same thing before you arrive at a product you really like and works for you.

I say it's the least expensive way to completely change your look. So if you can't afford a costume at the moment, experiment with new cosmetics!
