Re: save money on costumes !
If that's the new costume design in turkey, it'll still be at least $600. After all, you have to have the DESIGNER flannel shirt and faded jeans. Heck, the blue turtleneck under the flannel would probably cost around $250 all by itself.

Re: save money on costumes !
Then again... For a performance I did at a restaurant some time back I had decided to wear a dance dress for one of my sets instead of bedlah. During the middle of that set I overhead a woman comment to her friend (yep, in the middle of the performance and loud enough to be heard over the music *and* finger cymbals) something along the lines of: she could put on a dress and be a bellydancer (since I was wearing a "dress" and was not showing vast expanses of flesh as she had expected to see). Not my usual reaction from the gp/an audience member, so costuming can have a huge impact upon people's reactions to the dance (and I guess I can add that this could go either way).

I think maybe (just my opinion here) that since this looks American they love this kind of costume. I remember Delilah went to Japan and before she did I had a class with her in which she said that she was going to Japan and dance in blue jeans because it symbolized America- which was what she was wearing at the class. I remember reading how the workshop attendees LOVED her "costume".

What's with the little window? It reminds me of the sign language window...
I guess any old schmata will do these days.
To me it almost looks like a different dance altogether without the "usual" garb. She rocks...

Re: save money on costumes !
Can anyone explain what this video is? Obviously, that woman is an outstanding dancer, but what's with the setting? Is is a contest of some kind and those dudes with the tuxes are the judges? Can you imagine how hard it must be to dance in a setting like that? I have to say, I miss the fringe....

Re: save money on costumes !
I suspect that this is the Ibo show (a popular show in Turkey that regularly features belly dance); the gentlemen in the formal attire hold instruments, most likely, they are the official band ;-)

Re: save money on costumes !
Yup, looks like the Ibo show to me, it's the same show Didem dances on all the time. That's like the Turkish Tonight Show, right?
I was curious about the little window, too. It does look like the dancer in the little window is interpreting the dance so the hearing impaired can see it.
(jk, I'm not THAT blonde!)
It does look like she's doing the same choreo, though, which made me think of that Lebanese dance contest, where the dancers all did the same choreo? Didn't they? I'm sure this is unrelated. Sorry...babbling now... stream of consciousness posting...
Anyway, she ROCKS. No makeup, no Lee Press-On hair, no sparkles, and yet she's fabulous & owns the place. I'd love to know who she is!

Re: save money on costumes !
It seems that both dancers are dancing on the same drum solo. My guess:
-it's an imitate your favorite celebrity show (they're both wearing jeans)
-its the same dancer, but they wanted to show her in a sequined top and stage light to stress the point that she's a real dancer and that she can also dance in 'normal' clothes without the stage lights.
Her shimmies are so sharp and tight, she could wear a paper bag and still look great on stage.

Re: save money on costumes !
She's not a belly dancer just one of the audience of ibo but its old video that time ibo used to work with Asena so just for fun they were looking for fake Asena. So she is courageous as you can see :)

She's great, but I would prefer different costuming.

Re: save money on costumes !
The person that originally posted this video on youtube is claiming that the flannel girl stole the choreography from the girl in the mini-video. I remember when it 1st posted years ago.

I love it! I can now believe that there is no need for me to spend anymore money on costume stuff. Self delusion works I tell you.
