Thread: ISO Traditional Greek Music

Can anyone suggest some of their favorite cd's featuring traditional Greek music? I have been looking at my local library but no luck. I know they exist. It doesn't necessarily have to be for bellydancing, can be for just listening. Mostly intrumental type stuff

I've enjoyed Welcome to E Muzeki . It is instrumental maybe not traditional enough.

Go look for a CD by "The Royal Greek Festival Company" - I forget the name right now. It was done by Dora Stratou, and features her singing (at times). It doesn't get any more authentic or traditional than that. Its a fairly common CD.

Couldn't find that particular item at the library, but I found some traditional Greek folk, traditional Greek etc. Hope it's the sound I am looking for. Thanks for the info. I will keep on looking.

this is a great greek band in baltimore. if you email them, they may be able to point you in the right direction in terms of artists to look for.

If you are refering to Dora Stratou this is not correct.
Dora Stratou was a culture genius and she had the idea to collect the folk dances of Greece (more than 1.000 different regional dances) and save them.
She created the theatre Dora Stratou and the organization Dora Stratou.
I'm teaching for them Crete Folklore from 1986.
But the organization have producted all the CD's, Tapes and DVD's.
Dont know which one CD you have but probably it will be Domna Samiou that is a Goddess !!!
Actually i'm dancing on this Thursday at the theatre Dora Stratou as the CID conferance (Unesco Dance Council) will take place at the theatre.

Thanks for all the advice. Zorba, I found a great disc you mentioned. SO THAT's what a Bouzouki is. That's the kind of music I was looking for. I love it. Such happy music.
