Dr. Mo's workshop music
Can anyone id the music Dr. Mo used for his modern baladi workshop in Dallas this spring? Little Egypt doesn't have the CD on the website and he doesn't identify the music on the workshop dvd (unless I missed it somehow!)
Help?

"Helwa El Lehba Di"...It is on his Workshop 2007 CD, I think. I believe it's also on the "On Fire" CD.

Oh, thank you Nisaa. Where do you find the 2007 CD? I have the 2005 but haven't seen the other. But just took a listen to it on On Fire. No wonder it sounded familiar. Has its own little intro section, baladi, and then its own little finale. It would make a nice piece for those haflas and stage shows where you are limited to 5 or 6 minutes. Thanks again!

Souzan (of the third coast?!)
I bought the Workshop 07 CD when I was in Dallas, but I actually think Dahlal might have it. I THINK the On Fire version is exactly the same, though (they're at home, though, so I can't check at the moment).

ETA: I agree I LOVE that piece; I used it once already at a local show, and I plan to use it again in the future. It makes me feel all happy-happy-joy-joy!

Re: Dr. Mo's workshop music
Yes, the third coast one! Dr. Mo has too much ...gasp...ballet training for the other.
I've been home sick all week with a respiratory infection and have no voice and no energy. So all I can do is play on Bhuz and watch dvds. Watched the workshop dvd through and now I'm ready to get well and start working on it.
The camera work on the dvd was pretty good so in addition to seeing the moves on Mo, you also saw the entire workshop on a couple of other dancers with different body types. Couldn't always see feet on the dancers but good sense of arms, feeling, expression, phrasing.
Thanks again for the music info!!

Re: Dr. Mo's workshop music
The song is Hilwa Loaaba Di originally on the CD "Dance with Samara". The length is 9:57.
The song has 2 different parts. I mean it's an whole song but you can easily cut it in the middle and dance on the first or second part.
On On Fire, she uses only one part, that's why it's only 4 minutes or so.
For Mo Geddawi workshop, he cut the song to 6:08. As said before, you can purchase Workshop 2007 at Dahlal.

Re: Dr. Mo's workshop music/Workshop Helwa Loaaba Di
Highjacking the thread...
Maybe I have not catched it from the DVD: did Mo Geddawi said how to dress to dance his choreography?
(Since it's a baladi song, maybe a baladi dress but I'm curious to know what he said about it)

Re: Dr. Mo's workshop music
Caro, I'll have to listen for that when I watch it again. He says so much during those workshops that I often watch the dvds with a notebook in my hand. The edited version of the song as he used it has that more orniental feeling intro and finale with the baladi sandwiched in the middle. So I would think you could wear a fancy baladi dress. Not sure I would do it in gallabyia using his arrangement. But definitely something like what I am wearing in my profile pic.
What are your thoughts on that?

Re: Dr. Mo's workshop music
Thank you Souzan for your answer.
Being pretty much folkloric myself, I didn't have in mind to wear a 2 pieces costume. I thought more about a galabeya like these:

or a dress like yours. In some occasions, I would consider a fancy dress but what you wear on your profile is very appropriate to me.

Re: Dr. Mo's workshop music
I don't recall Dr. Mo specifying. I've seen footage of his troupe doing the choreo in dresses that go just below the knee. When I performed it, I did wear a fancy galabaya, partly for selfish reasons (comfortable!) but partly because the song does have that bouncy beledi feel.

Yeah, fancy gallabyia. I probably wouldn't do this in my white cotton one but something with a little more glitz.
