    Saad's Il Moulid?

Anybody familiar with the Saad song Il Moulid? I'm seeking a translation, or even just a general gist. I'm familiar with what a moulid is from reading A Trade Like Any Other, so I'm guessing the song is about let's everybody go have fun at the moulid, but I'd like to know for sure. I have a copy of it on a CD compiled by Tarik Sultan--I have an email in to him about it, but I know he's a very busy man so I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask here :-)

I don't know what all the words mean, but an important principle underlying moulid/party music is that singers often offer dedications and other seemingly irrelevant information. Besides the "Let's go to the moulid!" (? I think?) at the beginning, I wasn't advised that there were extremely crucial parts of the words to react to.

Additionally, I think it was made for a movie, so some stuff Saad says in it might be too movie-specific to make sense out of that context, or to matter in the grand scheme of things.

It's a great little song, though: most Egyptians I have used it with seem to like it, especially at the tempo change.

I want to learn more of what the words mean, so I can speak just as eloquently as Saad , but I wouldn't get TOO worried about the words. I'll post if I get something translated soon.

Is that the one with "dancing" and "joying" in English?

Kamilia, thanks so much for offering to post if you find anything out--I promise the same in return :-) Sounds like I can at least dance comfortably to it in front of a GP audience and not worry about dancing to anything offensive if any Arab speakers happen to be there. I love the tempo change, it's like an airplane taking off!

Nepenthe, nope, it's not the "joying" song. It pretty much sounds like a big party.

I did find out that, in the movie it's from, the big party is for someone becoming a policeman, so there are a lot of references to that character and others.

Vroooooooom....airplane taking off is the best comparison, I love it!
