    Recommendations for turkish music?

I recently got a copy of "How to make your husband a sultan" and absolutely loved it. I know NOTHING about turkish music, but would like to here more of that style (not the pop stuff). Does anyone have recommendations?

The non-pop Turkish bellydance music I like the best is Ensemble Hussein Turkmenler. They have a cd Turkish Bellydance which has a lot of variety, from more folk pieces to more showcase dance pieces. Also, Omar Faruk Tekbilek. He has a lot of cd's-all of which have both ambient songs and more dancable songs. Good luck and happy dancing. Jamie

I also reccomend the above as well as:
    Tanyeli's CD
Tayyar's Turkish rhythms CD has some amazing tracks on it
Asena's first self titled album - a lot of it is Arabic music Tukocized but it's still quite good

I'm on the look out for good Turkish music as well.

If you like some of the classic stuff, also look at George Abdo, the Sultans, Gus Vali and John Belzikjian (sp?), they aren't all necessarily Turkish, but there is some really great classic belly dance music there.

There's a CD that John Bilezikjian sells which is Turkish music in the same genre as "Make Your Husband a Sultan". The CD title is "Sirocco".

I assume that the "How to Make Your Husband A Sultan" CD that you bought features Ozel Turkbas, right? Well another one of hers worth having is Alla-Turca.

My favorite Turkish artist is Esin Engin. You might try looking through Marisa's album cover gallery on radiobastet.com for more Turkish artists to google. It's down at the moment, or I would have weeded through it and got the names for you myself.

To listen to tons of Turkish music for free, and buy what you like, visit Turkish Music and Voice Library. I love to listen to Ibrahim Tatlises (in the Arabesque section).
