Thread: El Nassem (The Breeze) questions...

My troupe is dancing to El Nassem on a Nourhan Sharif album called Nourhan Cairo. The charity we are dancing for wants all this information about the song. None of us have a hard copy of the album so we don't really know anything about it. I found a little bit that it was composed by Mr. Sami R. Any tips on where to get more information? Also the organizers also want to know what instruments are used. Sounds like a heavily synthesized peice with maybe some Nay and tabla, but it is hard to tell. Anyone able to pick them out? Thanks!

Wow, are you listening to the same Nourhan Cairo as me? To my ear it's real strings, though I could be wrong. Very stringy, fully orchestrated piece. There's a bit of kanoon up front and yes, nay, and tabla obviously.

I don't know anything about the music's origins offhand but my class had a piece choreographed to it for them. I don't have my hard copy of the album to hand. May I ask why you don't have a hard copy? It's a very nice album, well worth paying money for, and not hard to get either.

You could always go to Nourhan's website and contact her. I have found her to be very helpful in answering questions (and some of mine were pretty dumb because a few years ago I had Zaza Hassan confused with Yousry, well they did look similar back then lmao...thanks Nourhan *mwah!*).

Nay, Tabla, Quanoon, Violin (also sounds like a cello in there too and possibly an Oud), accordion, trumpet.

Maybe because you're hearing synth. bass sounds in the backround. Listen again and you can hear it.
