Tell me your favorite song to dance stick, interested in traditional and modern. I love Luxor Baladna, it's becoming over played a bit, but I also like some of the raw sounding songs from the Aswan group. Some songs have the great changes and such, but they lack that heavy, driving, earthy feel that I associate with Saidi/assaya dancing.

Re: Favorite song for Assaya/Tahtib
Theres a version of it on Yasmina Ramzys Oyoun.
I like Howa ya Howa- got two nice versions of it-one sung by Fadel Shaker. The other is on Heya di Yasmina ( sorry think its called that I can't find it at the moment). Yasmina of Cairo's second CD
And Ana Said
Pop version on Mezdeke 5
Great version on Oriental Fantasy 11-long drum intro which I usually edit out

Oops, should have been more specific about Wallah Zaman. For me the only version to dance to is Metqal Qanawi's. But thanks for the info on the other version, Candi.

Ya Ein Moulateyn is one of my favorites. So is Tigi Nigsim. Any good earthy Lebanese depke works for me too!
I also like Sahrawiya by Setrak.

Re: Favorite song for Assaya/Tahtib
Me too! I worked for years in the Arabic clubs, but mostly in a Lebanese club. I actually had to argue with the musicians to convince them to play debke during my cane show instead of the traditional Egyptian Saidi. It took only one show to convince them. The audience went crazy! After that, it was a staple in my show.
