Rhythms -- with MUSIC, not just drums?
I know this is probably a lot to ask, but I'm hoping something like this exists.
What I'm going to be doing with my Level 2 classes is doing in-depth work (6-weeks) focusing on one rhythm each 6-week session. What I'd like to find is a CD that has MUSIC (not just drum rhythms) in each of the basic rhythms. I'd like to use this to drill with instead of just using drum rhythms.
Does something a compilation CD of rhythm MUSIC exist? I've got some individual songs from different CDs that feature some of the rhythms, but I'd love it if it were all on one compilation. It doesn't have to be a full orchestra or anything. (Does Gems of the Middle East fit what I'm looking for?)
Thanks!!

Gems has the accompanying rhythm analysis books.
Dorku lists what rhythms go with the tunes covered there, and on the simplified songs CDs - these CDs have simplified, and shortened versions of the tunes with the info on the maqam and rhythm. No sure, though, whether this is the ideal music for your goals b/c the tunes are recorded in shorter-than-normal versions.

Jalilah's rhythm CD has the rhythm, then the rhythm in a song. BUT I found the clips too short to be useful for drilling, personally.
I've had to create my own CDs for each rhythm to use in class. Now I've switched over from CDs to my ipod for classes and I need to recreate those collections. In some cases I remember I even cut songs to use a long passage of a particular rhythm.

Just thinking - Eddie Kochak's Night at the Casbah has for each song a brief "trailer" with the drum playing the main rhythm - that may be useful. I think that some of his CDs include at least the meter on the song list.

I am in the process of looping those to 4minutes.

Sorry if I am missing the obvious, my brain is mush today (my hormones are on a wild ride) - which clips are you talking about?
I have used Audacity with great success to shorten and lengthen songs: Copy-and-paste chorus and verse repeatedly at the right spot - voila! I would not be surprised if that's what you mean by looping?

Yep...extending play time by repeating the song over and over. Copy and paste.

The Desert Wind World Dance CD has all of the rhythms listed for each song, and most I find are played fairly consistently throughout each song.

Closest thing I know of is a rhythm cd with a drum solo in that particular rhythm.

Shira...those are wonderful and I plan on getting all 4.
I wish a band would get together and do something like this but a bit more full than Mary Ellens skeletal version. Something 5 minutes long with a consistant rhythm that gets a tad more embellished and a bit faster as the song progresses and is then joined by a melody line by only 2 or 3 more instruments. I could sell a million of em..well at least 8,000
