Absolutely the most difficult music I've encountered
I love Setrak and his oriental dance routines. I've danced to his stuff for years, but I've encountered one that had me going WTF! I love it but it is a challenge. This one is going to take some practice. The routine is Rannet el Khelkhal off of the Setrak and Noura CD. It's 27:19.
Does anyone know if there is a video of this music out there somewhere? I'd love to see what someone else does with it.

I don't know the Setrak version of this song, but there is a Reda video of Ranet Elkholkhal here: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wL1EHitZ-xo]YouTube - Mahmoud Reda & Farida Fahmi & the Reda Troupe[/ame]
Is this similar to the Setrak song?Last edited by Hannan; 12-14-2008 at 10:48 AM.

I just d/l the album because I was curious about the song - it's nice! Really the only part I think I'd find difficult would be the intro section. The rest is nicely defined sections, like any oriental routine - or at least that's the way it feels on first listen - I haven't gotten out of my chair to try to dance to it yet.

I hate the intro...
If you want to see what happens if somebody cuts the piece down to 7,5 minutes, have a look at me:

Actually I think the intro is the easiest part. I previously had just listened to it as well and didn't try to dance to. The sections are really defined but there are some odd rhythms. There's even a section that sounds like depke. I had to create a traveling step with hip drops to go with it as I didn't want to go into dancing a line dance.

Ranit Al Khal (this is how they spell it there) is also on an Adam Basma cd, it's really nice. It's about 6 minutes.

The song on Adam Basma's cd is the same one as the Reda video clip above. It has a very nice sound, nice instruments, nice percussion and a LOT of changes.

Wow, Leyla, that brought back memories of playing that with Yusef at the Pasha, I think it took me 4 months to learn that one enough to be comfortable with it. And, we always did the "hey" stuff too. I think that was one of the pieces that Calliope did.
