    THUMPIN' club music

    So this downtown club that has hired me for a set wants me to dance to "Arab Money" by Busta Rhymes. I hated it at first but now it is insidiously growing on me.

    What other hard beat music would you use to dance to at a hip hop / house / dance club? Know any good Arabic rap?

    I'm probably also going to use a track off Oriental Belly Dance: Tabla Techno.

    there are LOADS of techno-beat remixes of classics. we're currently learning a choreo to a techno-ish remix of Enta Omri, for example. Our prof loves songs with a good beat, and she seems to have a whole load of remixed BD classics

    I'm really digging Shadia Mansour, Abeer, and Arapeyat.

    Clotaire K is excellent. But you have to find out what he's singing about first on certain songs b/c he can be quite political. Raps in both Arabic and French. Music-wise, however, he is awesome.

    Also check out Buddha Bar series. The 2nd disk, usually the more thumping one, contains a lot of beautiful and danceable Arab-inspired tracks.

    If you can find it, there is also a compilation CD, "Kings of Arabic Rap"

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqYFNlyv1hc]YouTube - Arabic Rap Kings 2008 Album Advertisement[/ame]

    I haven't had much luck finding a vendor who carries it, but I know of at least one web site that offers (probably illegal) streaming and downloads of it. If your conscience objects to flaunting copyright laws, some of the individual musicians offer downloads of their music online. I performed to "Alf 7ewar" at a Halloween hafla in October, and I got the MP3 download off el-7aty's Myspace page.

    Ew, Arab Money. It's catchy as all-get-out but I hope you can replace it with some of this stuff instead!

    If you want to impress them with your old skool cool, find a copy of the MARRS Ofra Haza remix of Erik B & Rakim's "Pump Up The Volume"

    You might want to try some of Karim Nagi's stuff (aka Turbo Tabla). I've recently picked up his "Belly and the Beat" cd (I'm pretty sure that's the name, it's out in the car at the moment) and it might provide something usable for your current need (as Karim says that what he's doing blends ME, hip-hop, house, etc.).

    I love hip hop and the first song has played while I was performing at GP clubs...but I can't seem to get over the fact that he uses the phrase "beatin' up your womb." ewwww.

    And on another note, when is hip hop, particularly the usual dirty South artists going to discover the aphrodisiac effects of the Saidi rhythm?

    Re: THUMPIN' club music

    I always wanted to make a remix of Jay-z's Big Pimpin smashed with Khusara Khusara.

    I thought it was funny the first time I heard a dancer just playing random music and the Hossam Ramsy song came on and I was like, this is Big Pimpin! But they didn't know what I was talking about.
