    Help me!!!

Okay so I have been assigned homework by my dance teacher to expand my dance/music style. Apparently I tend to be a *sweet* dancer with *sweet* taste in music. I am having trouble picking out a new song to do a choreography to. Ideally I would like something dramatic and somewhat of a fast pace. Maybe sexy? womanly? I have a more "modern" taste, but am open to traditional or classic. Any ideas???

Do you do cane? Maybe a nice heavy Saidi piece to bring out your earthy side?

Here's an exercise I learned at one of Aziza's workshops. Write down six to eight different adjectives (sexy, sly, anger, dreamy, etc...) on index cards. Play a long song that allows you to go through all of these emotions. Don't stop dancing while you're transitioning from one emotion to the other. Keep playing with it until you experiment with a wide range of emotions. You could also record yourself after you do the exercise 1-2 times just so you see exactly what your face and body display. Connect to the music. What does that instrument make you feel? Pay attention to the changes and the nuances in the music. Have fun!

ooo, cane is good! or maybe an oum kalsoum song that's sad or yearning like darat al ayem or lissar fakir (forgive spelling).

We *JUST* did a cane choreo for the troupe, otherwise showing off the earthy side would be perfect! And the idea that came from Aziza is really good too...problem is I am having trouble even picking out music as you usually can only hear snippets of a song...and alas, I am soooo overwhelmed! whew, there is a lot out there!

Tarkan...Olurum Sana. It means "I would die for you". Dark...kick ass rock and roll. She will never look at you the same way.

Try Raksat El-Sahra from Sayidi Belly Dance with Nagua Fouad. It's very fast paced, live orchestra and as far from sweet as you can get.

Anyadance was super sweet and suggested Unveiled off of the Angelika Nemeth CD. I love it. I like the Tarkan song too, but one of my troupmates does an *awesome* and uber sexy rope dance to it!

Zeina Remix on "Dancer's Odyssey". Amaya produced it. It's definitely the classic Zeina with a techno remix. I must perform to it! But you can't be sweet-it's tough and gritty.
