    Looking for some favorites for dancing with Meleya Leff

    Hi everyone,

    I am searching for some good music choices for Meleya Leff. I see dancers using Pop music, but I want some folkloric choices, and I seem to only find "Banat Baharei" from Wash Ya Wash. I think it is a great song, but I would like to hear some other ideas from all of you.

    Thanks,

    Thalia

    I used have used Si Abdu from Exotic Balady and Meleya Leff from Raks Ayoub.

    Girls of alexandria on Rakset Claribel. Theres meleya dance on Rakset Ayoub (it might be Raks Ayoub) and Sahra Saeda's Melaya on music for an Egyptian Dance and theres a great baladi number on Hamada by Sayed Bayhala (sorry I've completly forgot how to spell his name!!)

    I like "Banat el Mahroussa" (sp?) from Faten Salama's CD. You can hear a sample of it on her old website (at the bottom of the page):

    ::::::: FATEN SALAMA - MASTER INSTRUCTOR :::::::

    It has a very nice folky sound to it.

    In addition to the suggestion above . . . (many version of banat bahri/banat alexandria etc)

    One I just discovered for a folkloric sound is Abdullah ala Keefik on 'Dancing with Genies' from Serpentine. There is also a more smooth version of that song on 'Heya di Yasmina'

    Other than that 'Sukkar Bulag' on one of the oriental fantasy CDs (I'm using that one this month). I have a really old school version of that but its on a random home burnt CD from Samesen.

    "Masharabshi shay, ashrab gazzuza ana" (I don't drink tea, I drink soda) is a good song for flirting 3ala melaya leff :) Marwa, a Lebanese singer did a remake of this song that should be suitable for what you need.

    PE-KO is selling a cd called Raks Ayoub which is a collection of songs from Bassam Ayoub and there are at least 2 different songs you can use, one in which is on our Layali Kortouba CD and that CD you can get at Dahlal International.

    I like Si' Abdo from the Exotic balady CD. However, please know that in this Egyptian song, even though it is a fun song, they're saying/implying that Mr Abdo like to comes to visit... What/Who is he visiting is for the mind to create..., so I would not play it at a wedding, etc. It's the sme kind of double innuendo theme as the "Ennab" song. Ennab means grapes, there yellow ones, red, and green, but they are actually talking about women and how almost abundant or easy it is to get grapes. Men!!

    Tipsuda, thanks for the heads up! I tried to get a translation of this song way back when I first danced to it, but was unable to find anyone who knew what the words were other than the girl was talking to someone named "Mr. Abdo".
