    Nebtiti minin el Hikiya

    Greetings folks

I am curious about this song on Raks Sharki, Vol. 5 Stars of Casino opera.
3rd track is the listed song above but after doing a search on youtube with many black and white vids of orchestras playing just the first part of this track. So is the 3rd track on this cd actually two different songs? Nebtiti minin el Hikiya ends and then there is a pause and a kanun taksim so what is the song after that at around 9 minutes +/- I just feel like its a whole other song.

    Thanks

    Sean

The sections in the Stars of the Casino Opera version are the different instrumental segments that occur before the main verses of the song. This is an Abdel Halim Hafez song; look for him on YouTube and you might be able to find the whole thing (I would look now but I'm at work and YouTube is blocked). Hope this helps!

The entire song is almost a 1/2 hour long. What appears on the Album are 3 separate movements taken from the instrumental segments of the song. The vocal sections are removed and only the parts suitable for dancing on are played.

    Its ALL one song.

Yes there are 3 different instrumental segments of Neptidi. The CD your referring to plays the first and the second segment. There is a video of Suheir Zaki wearing red where she dances to all 3 parts of the song. I don't know the name of the video. Here's a piece of it:

For sheet music, you might also look for "Tu mavra matia su" which is the greek version of this arabic song.

Wow I was just about to post about this song. I wonder if I can highjack a little here- can anyone name me different versions of the song and what cd's I can find it on? I'm looking to dance to this song with a live band and looking for all the variation I can get!

There's a really nice condensed version on the first Belly Dance Superstars CD.

Jalilah is a wonderful sweet and generous person. She now lives in Ottawa where I had the opportunity to take classes with her when I lived there too. As the produced or those excellent Raks Sharki CD's, why not write her and ask her your questions directly? Her website is { Jalilah } -- Raks Sharki. Those who do could always copy and paste her responses here (if she agrees) for all to see. Just and idea . . . ..g.:

Off the top of my head: Two are Ta Mavra Matia Sou, the one by George Abdo and the second by Greek group The Levendes on their Double Exposure CD.

    Also:

Suhaila Salimpour has a nice violin version on Arabian Musicals CD Vol 3.

    Stars of the Casino Opera.

    Casbah Belly Dance

    The original of course.

Oh, and Orient Beats has a techno version.

That video is called something along the lines of "nagua fouad and souhair zaki live in Abu Dabi" and also features Nagua dancing to Maschaal, another classic piece of music used for belly dancing.

Other than that I have nothing to add, except can I just say that Abdel Halim Haifez has the voice of a God!

Here's my Nebtidi page: Nebtidi Minen El Hikaya I think everything listed on this thread is there except the "Orient Beats" version Norma mentioned. (Will look for that to add. Oh, missing Abdo, too.)

I was watching that VHS for the first time two nights ago. I think Souhair was very ready for that show to be over. She did NOT want to dance with that cane! ..l;,

The second movement of "Nibtidi" (ie, the section that starts about 9 minutes into the version from Jalilah's CD) appears on Gems of the Middle East by Mary Ellen Donald and Mimi Spencer. It's a simple arrangement, with just qanoun and percussion, but I like it a lot.

My favorite version of "Nibtidi" is the version on Jalilah's. In fact, I might use that for a performance I'm doing tomorrow night!

Hmm. Really? I only have Souhair dancing but I have an ancient bootlegged copy so it's quite possible I don't have the entire video. I would like to see Nagwa dancing to Maschaal. That song was very popular in the 80's early 90's..

The DVD is available on eBay, from Belly dance Marketplace. I started with a bad bootlegged copy too...

Mishaal was written for Nagwa, wasn't it?

I just watched as two sides of my brain came smashing together! Oh, how I love "Ta Mavra Matia Sou," especially by George Abdo. And "Nebtidi" sends me over the moon! (I have the versions from Mohamed Abdel Wahab and Jalilah) I wonder why I hadn't put it together that they are two sides of the same coin.

Thanks, Norma, et al, for waking me up to this! Hooray!
Now I gotta go look around to find the video you all mentioned...

Norma, I bought this Soheir Zaki DVD from Belly Dance Marketplace on eBay before that business completely collapsed. It's a Saut wa Soora called Soheir Zaki live in the Gulf, as i recall.

I have searched high and low for a place to buy it but haven't been succesful. The album is called Wahabyat. It was awhile ago though, so maybe something has popped up since I searched. Although... I know it is out there on the internet, in ehrmm, downloadable form.

Thanks for the name of the album! I looked around...wasn't able to find a source to purchase the CD anywhere. But, I did notice what you meant by "downloadable form." That bummed me out. :-(
