    Good classical Baladi song

Can anyone just name off a few for me? I love New Baladi by Mario Kirlis, however its not classical and I'm looking for a common one a live band can play for me. I know a couple songs by tune, but I dont think that going to help much :)

do you mean a Baladi Taksim?

If so, they are usually improvised and the often draw thematically from songs:
    Hassan Ya Khouli
Baladi Ya Wad (Habibi Ya Eini)
    Aminti Billah

If you are familiar with these three songs and the general form that a balady taksim takes, you should be able to follow. If you aren't talking about a balady taksim, but just a song, those are three good classic songs you can request as well.

Must recommend Ranya Renee's DVD, particularly disk one, as it goes into the format of baladi taqsims, both the awadi and tet kind. For example, I never knew that a tet baladi always started with a taxim, then into Aminti Billah, then Hassan Ya Ghouli. Heck, I never knew the difference between awadi and tet! It is an awesome video and now I feel like I could go to any band and request a baladi taqsim/progression and dance to it (if we had any bands around here that could do one).

My suggestions too. There are so many variations on these depending on the musicians and the melodic instrument used (accordian, sax, nay, even trumpet!). Also check out the CD Cairo Plus by Samir Srour. Wonderful baladi sax. It is on eMusic so you can download the whole thing. Fatme Serhan's Queen of Balady and Best of Saidi (which is actually baladi) are also favorites. And, of course, there is everyone's favorite Tahtil Shibbak--though not strictly a baladi progression it does include a short taqsim.
