Thread: Lyrics for Binti Beida/Dayatti Mali

Does anybody know where I can find the lyrics to the song Binti Baida (aka Dayatti Mali)? I've browsed some lyrics sites (e.g. Shira's) with no success so far. I know that it's okay to dance to and that "binti baida" = "white girl" but I'm considering performing this song for an audience with a lot of Arabic speakers and would like to have a more detailed sense of what's going on in the song. "Binti Baida" means "my girl is light-skinned." This song is very acceptable to Arab audiences; it was recommended to me by Dr. Mo Geddawi.

Daya-ati malee - I lost my money
w'ana -amil eh? - What can I do?
El binti beyda - the girl is fair skinned
... felous - but I don't have any money (felous = another word for money)
Ya walad ana habeit - Oh boy I've loved

This is all off the top of my head from learning it many years ago. Someone else may have more...

Aurelie, it's on Metkaal Kenawe's "Sahra Seadi" (sic), and there's also a version on the CD "Asala I Live."

Thanks for the lyrics help. If anybody out there has any more, keep it coming. :) I'm going to be performing a Saiidi number at a university Arabic cultural night, so want to be as up to speed on the song as possible.
