Other Versions of Shik Shak Shok?
I used to skip past this track when it cames up, the weird electronic zings in the beginning put me off (Synth haaaate!) But! I listened to it all the way through yesterday and realized it is a very awesome song, despite the electro-wibbling. I have seen the clip of Soheir dancing to it, sans wibbling, so I know there must be versions other than the Hassan Abou Seoud one I have. But I Goggled my heart out and came up bust. Can anyone point me to a synth-free version?
Also, I have read translations of the lyrics that makes me curious...there is a line about "I'll make you forget about rap and rock". Isn't this song older than rap (though maybe not rock). Or am I seeing a translation for a modern version, possibly the one sung by Haifa? Or am I crazy (although these concepts are not mutually exclusive:)
Thanks in advance,
Haven

There are two Hassan Abou Seoud versions, the older one is on the CD called Shik Shak Shok (if I remember correctly) and the more modern one is on Saher el Accordeon. The older version might be more to your liking.

I have no idea how many versions are out there but there is one on one of the Mezdeke albums.

From the clips on Emusic, both the Mezdeke version and the one on Shik Shak Shok are the same as the one I have. I can't find a clip from Saher el Accordeon to check.
Thanks though! I am probably being too fussy, I always want to find some old scratchy album rendition of everything, you know buried in the sands of time and all:)

No it's a good question, I'd really like to hear a version using the mroe traditional insrumentation. I'm not that keen on the synthesizer parts either. Great song/track to dance to though, innit?

Thanks Kiyaana for the info. I tried to download by Amazon and I can not have it in Canada, it is only for US customers. ,f::

The version I have, which is on Masters of Bellydance, is definitely synthy but it doesn't have weird zings. It starts with a drum solo, has one *spot the synth whizzy rising chord* section and then is fairly normally accordiony, though I wouldn't be surprised if it was a synth accordion rather than a real one, or else one that's heavily produced.

Re: Other Versions of Shik Shak Shok?
Oh! Thank you! Since I am a big CD buyer because I write chronicles in a French Canadian bellydance magazine, I *never* downloaded music yet. I always buy a whole CD even if it is just for one song. It was my first time trying it and I did not think a minute about iTunes.

Thanks!!!
