Qadduka-l-Mayyas translation
Does anyone know what "Qadduka-l-Mayyas" translates to in English? It's the name of a song by Doula that 2 of my troupe mates and I dance to. We don't know how to pronounce it so we've always just called it "our dance" when talking about it but now we are starting to develop more dances so we need an "official" name to call this song.

I love that song, too!
Liner notes says..."You carry yourself with dignity, my beloved". I have no idea if that's a literal translation of the title.
I bet if you emailed Roula Said (she is one of the singers in Doula, and is a wonderful, warm lady) and asked her she would be happy to tell you.

Re: Qadduka-l-Mayyas translation
i looked this up the other day. it's rather easy to find translations on google actually for this one.
here's one that seems like it knows what it's talking about: edelweiss – Jesse Cook - Qadukka-l-Mayyas Chorus Your proud figure (my beloved), my life Moves with ease, like a small branch of ben t...

Re: Qadduka-l-Mayyas translation
Thank you so much Kathiya. That is so helpful.
I think it's amazing how different artists will interpret the same song so differently. Doula's version is so much different than Jesse Cook's. I like both. Our routine wouldn't work with Jesse Cook's version but I kind of like it better. It's more upbeat.
I can't wait to share the translation with my dance partners! I find it helpful to know the "story line" when I dance so I know what type of "mood" I should be exhibiting.

Re: Qadduka-l-Mayyas translation
i've been looking for a song to use as the (e)motion school song, to do at events, with allll the groups together, as a gag.
hmm, we might have a contender, an open air shimmy drill with alll the students of all the classes

Re: Qadduka-l-Mayyas translation
Roula Said is actually singing in the Jesse Cook version. We always called our choreography to the Jesse Cook version "P&Q" because it has a prelude attached to it.

Re: Qadduka-l-Mayyas translation
I have the version of The Al Turath Ensemble: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Qad-Qadduka-l-mayyas-Yaumri/dp/B000QOPUGY]Amazon.com: Qad "Qadduka-l-mayyas Yaumri": MP3 Downloads: Al Turath Ensemble[/ame]
So the Jesse Cook version was a lot of guitar for me at first, but having played it a few times it is growing on me.

You think these are different - listen to Doula's version. It is so different from the ones you all have been posting.

Re: Qadduka-l-Mayyas translation
I uploaded it to Bhuz's media page so you can have a listen. It's a beautiful song.
If you type in Doula into the artist box in the link below you will find it:

Thanks, that is a very nice version, with more fcus on the vocals and less tempo change. Really nice voice.
