    Ala Warag Il Foull

Okay, one more then I'll try to stop asking ..g.:

Anyone familiar with this balady? It's by Fatme Serhan. I really like it & keep coming back to it on my MP3 player but of course don't understand what's being said - sometimes I can pick out a few words, but not on this one - but I'm already choreographing bits in my head & want to make sure it's appropriate to the music.

I can upload tonight if no one knows it...

Don't do that! If people stop asking questions, there won't be any more discussion!!..g.:

I love threads about individual songs, even when I don't post I'm reading and learning. I also lost most of the lyrics files I had stored on my old computer, so I'm eager to rebuild that resource.

I like to format my own version, preferably with the transliteration and the translation side by side so I can sing** along and figure out the meaning of each word/phrase.

** I use the term 'sing' very loosely. ..l;,

Oh I like this piece of music too. I danced to it. I took it nice and slow.

Shokran for the pageslap ..g.: Guess I didn't dig deep enough beore asking.

I like the lyrics - they're as pretty as the music. Knowing the lyrics did make me rethink a few things I had in mind - not so upbeat & bouncy, medium tempo with slower movements for emotion & a little more flat footed/earthier? I'd like to use this for my open stage piece at ABDC, but I've never done balady before, so I'm wondering about the appropriateness of using this music dancing in a 2 piece cabaret bedleh mixing sharqi/am cab with balady movement?

Lauren, I did that recently with Habibi Ya Einy. Started singing the first few lines in the car driving w/my husband over the weekend & he looked at me like I was nuts ..l;,

Listen to Hoda Sinbati's version of the same song. Very sweet, light. I like it much more than Fatme Serhan's version.

You know that Habibi Ya Einy is the same as Baladi Awad.

Personally, with Fatme's version, which is the one I know best, I'd be doing it very much Baladi/Shaabi style, in a galabiya or baladi dress, rather than trying to do it Oriental style.

Egyptian dancers have been using old school beledi music and beladi "feel" as part of their sharki routines for decades. They have not always had the time to change in their shows and thus you often see Fifi, Souheir etc doing beladi style progressions and songs in two piece. I see plenty of Dina doing Fatme beledi feel songs in mini-skirts!
I LOVE Hoda Sinbati's version. If I didn't wear a two piece costume I couldn't wear my rhinestone belly chain.

I did a melaya leff to this. It is superbeledi! I like it heaps.

You can do it in a two-piece but a) BDers might look at you and go OH NO she is Doing It Rong The Horror so you need to be very sure of yourself and b) some beledi might not look so pretty in such a costume.

Oh, that's a brilliant idea! I've wanted to do the song and act out some of the lyrics; melaya leff would be a great style to use.

It requires the "right" costume, of course. I wouldn't wear an "airy fairy princess" costume. I wear a two piece with this song for Arabs regularly... including some who are quite educated in the dance. If some dancers would get their panties in a bunch over it in a two piece as part of a full show I'd say they're missing the point.

,f:: Guess I better pick different music then. I don't have a beledi dress or anything ready to wear right now other than an 'airy fairy' bedleh with a candy colored or iridescent skirt. I'd wanted to use it for open stage at the ABDC, but not if I'm likely to get OhNOZ! She is Doing It Rong The Horror ..g.: Thanks though, everyone.
