Please identify this drum solo
Hello
This has been driving me nuts for a year, ever since I first saw this video. I loved her performance and music so much that I played it at least once a day for like 3 weeks afterward.
Aliya
Can someone please tell me where to find this drum solo? I know that the basic tune is "Ya Amera", but it's not the track from Amera's album. This is much more complex. I have tried emailing online arabic music experts, Aliya (the dancer), and Amera's online store asking about it, all to no avail.
Any help is appreciated.
07-28-2007 02:42 PM #2The basic track is Om Kalthoum cocktail from the "Amani Red" CD, actually. I don't know the drum solo either, but it's a great one, and I'd like to know it, too.

Thank you
Thank you for your help.
Recently one of the online arabic music experts emailed me to tell me that the intro was "Coktail Om Kalthoum". I'd been looking for that for nearly a year, too. I've seldom heard more beautiful music in my life! I get lost in it every time I hear it.
I have seen two other videos with this drum solo in it. The one was of Valeria Putitskaya; unfortunately, I don't speak Russian (online translation services are not appropriate for composing correspondence, unless one wants to pick up Foot-in-Mouth disease) or even have contact info for her, so I can't write her to ask. The other was a video dancer on YouTube posted of herself, but I can't remember her name or enough about the video or her to bring up the video or her personal web site in a search. Oh well, it's only music, right? (Tries to convince herself that she won't die if she doesn't find this track).

07-28-2007 02:58 PM #5Oh, and the Om Kalthoum cocktail consists of the songs Amal Hayati and Fakkarouni, if I remember correctly.

Actually the cocktail piece is a medley of Amal Hayati, Fakkourini and Leilet Hob.

Dancer Directories for southern Europe and Russian Translation
What would help me most would be Russian translation for emails to Aliya Kurbanova (the dancer in the video) and Valeria Putitskaya who also used this drum solo in a routine.
In addition, there was a dancer who put up a video of herself doing a drum solo to this track on YouTube about 6 months or a year ago. If I remember correctly, she was based in Spain, Portugal or France, but was originally from North Africa. If I had access to some comprehensive directories of dancers in these nations, I might actually find her and email her to ask about it. She replied to comments in English, so I should actually be able to communicate with her once I find her.

Spiced...it just so happens that I appear to have the 'Ya Amera' piece you're talking about! I thought it looked familiar...and sure enough...I checked...and I have it!
I'll see if I can get its original source, I only have it on my computer and on a practice CD I burnt. I don't know if thats any help, but its something right?

Thank you everyone for all your help.
The original (I assume) "Ya Amera" is on Amera's album Al Ra'Kasa We Tabbal. This track is very nice, too. Perhaps the drum solo in the video is on another of her albums. She's had three, although I can only find two of them for sale.
Or perhaps the track on the video is not even named "Ya Amera". It might have just simply used "Ya Amera" as one of the layers, since it apparently has many elements to it.

Amera was selling it (in Australia), but she is currently out of stock as she is re-releasing it and it won't be ready until November. They have it for sale here:

If anybody has this cd let me know if it is worth buying, as I'm considering buying it but it comes out to about $27 and I'm not sure if I want to pay that much!

I'm a big fan of dancer produced cd's even though they are generally more expensive. The trade off, of course, is that they always have Heaps more usable songs on them than your usual $11 cd from maqam.
What I like about Amera's cds is that they often have a good variety of oriental songs and at least 2 or 3 drum solos on them.
That particular cd has 5 drum solos, ranging from 2 - 5 mins in length, all good quality, by which I mean very clear and 'live drum' sounding and good for performance rather than sounding synthezied.
It also has and Oud Taqsim and a med tempo Qanoon based version of LamaBada with a 1 min qanoon intro, I use this one for Samaii rhythm demo in class.

Hi,
I know Amera and Jamal Zraika very well. I also have the cd. That is "Ya Amera" but it's been edited at 2:44 so is shorter and the roll at the end, 3:10-3014, sounds like it's from something else.
If you are looking at other drum solos from Jamal check out
