Big choreo: Zeina?
Not long ago I researched Leylet Hob but when our teacher asked I decided to switch to Zeina. She recommended me the eight-minute version with a lot of trombone, clarinet. I hesitated for I love the nay, but agreed it was an interesting version. The trombones and clarinets sound a lot more blurry and "drunk" than the ney and so and you rather feel like on a village party or a bit like in the Kusturica movie "Underground" (i.e. Goran Bregovic).
So now I would like to research Zeina. I haven't found the lyrics, I have found that it is both attributed to Mo Abdel Wahab and Farid el Atrache - one as composer the other as singer? I used to think that Farid el Atrache composed his own songs or am I wrong?
Does anyone know the version I am talking about? I haven't seen it on youtube, it has four taqsims, first of clarinet, then of akkordion, then of trombone and last of keyboard. I don't know if so many taqsims are really recommendable for a big stage choreo? The song has a lot of that slow, trancey, drunken feel to it which I think is actually really cool but it is challenging for a dancer to be fascinating all the way through those slow parts,f::...

I found a version on itunes that is 8:37 and sounds like it has brass as it's main instrumentation. It's on the album "Majestic Bellydance"

My version mentions Farid el Atrache in the title and it's 8:38. It has this typical balcanic brass sound from the beginning.
I post you a clip from the movie for it just totally occupied that sound for me (also why I never can understand dancers dancing their tiny isolations to it). I don't know whether it was such a success in the U.S. but here...wow!

The sample I listened to last night didn't have that sound, but I LOVE the brass! It reminds me of this fabulous version of Lamma Badda I have by Tony Hanna, who has some of the funnest music on the planet.

Wow, I would find that one VERY hard to dance, personally but I'd sure enjoy seeing someone's interpretation!

Re: Big choreo: Zeina?
well my initial question: would you pick a song with four taqsims on eight minutes to do a stage choreo or would you say: well, hum, rather take a song that has more different parts or a development...

It's the one you've mentioned, it isn't available through our i-Tunes but I researched it and compared just there, it's the same.
