Translation for Ah Ya Zein
I know it sounds weird but I can't find the translation for this song. If you can believe it, Shira does not have it on her site! Help?

Re: Translation for Ah Ya Zein
I went looking for these a few months ago, and all I was able to find was this:
A YA ZAIN A YA ZAIN
oh beautiful, oh beautiful
A YA ZAIN EL `AGIBEEN
oh beautiful among people
YA WARD YA WARD
oh flowers, oh flowers
IMFATAH BAIN IL BASATEEN
blooming in the gardens
BIL HUB BIL HUB
in love, in love
YA MALO SAHARNI
I'm infatuated by his beauty
DAWAB DAWABLI ROHI
lost my soul
BA`OONO EL HILWEEN
in his beautiful eyes
BA`OONO EL HILWEEN
in his beautiful eyes
I got it from a site that translated the words from Spanish also, as I believe this was a song done by Alabina a few years ago.

Re: Translation for Ah Ya Zein
Hmm. Which goes back to another thread that talks about the use of Habibi which is the male version of sweetheart and how it was very incorrect to sing to a female using the female version of the word. The literal traslation above uses the male version: Oh his beautiful eyes! But all the versions I have of this song (which are numerous) are of a male singing about a woman. I don't know of a version of a woman singing about a man.

Funny, I didn't even notice the male/female thing. The verison I was dancing to is a male singing so in my brain I just read her.

Re: Translation for Ah Ya Zein
In older songs, like Ah Ya Zein, the object of the singer's affection was always referred to as a man because of it being impolite to address love words in public to a woman - even one's spouse. If a woman sang this song, she would sing as if singing to a man - no problem. When a male singer sings as if singing to a man, the Arab audience understands that he's singing to a woman but doing it in a socially acceptable way.
Lately there have been some pop songs written for men to sing which address a woman directly, using feminine endings on relevant words. As far as I know, though, this is considered to be a daring thing to do.
