    Saltana Iskandarani 1970's?

I am looking for an early version of this song. I found one by Said il Artist on a CD titled Spectacular Rhythms from 2007. The version I have heard and really like is, I believe, from the 1970's (maybe early 1980's??) also credited to an album called Spectacular Rhythms. Any help???
    Thanks

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking. I have 2 CD's entitled Spectacular Rhythms. One is by Said Artist and it is a collection of drum solos. The other is what my teacher used to refer as "the graduation album" once a student could dance to all the rhythms on this album she was ready to go pro. It's called Belly dance! Spectacular Rhythms From the Middle East. It's probably from the 70's as I used to have this on an LP. I looked through the English track title and didn't see a song title Saltana Iskandarani. It's a great CD however put out by the Voix de l'Orient Series.

Do you have a clip you can post?

The only song with a similar name that I can think of is Bana'at Iksandaria sp???from the Princess Of Cairo CD.

I have a video of Performances by Judeen. She does a drum solo and credits it to Spectacular Rhythms. Listening to the clips at Amazon, Saltana Iskandarani is the closest in beat and timing but the arrangement is different.
Belly Dance Spectacular Rhythms of the Middle East is no longer available, according to Amazon, and the website says they have no idea when or if it will become available. I will call and talk to Judeen and find out where she found it. Thanks anyway.

Okay, that one -- on iTunes -- is different from this one:
Belly Dance! Spectacular Rhythms of the Middle East Ziad Rahbani
which is available from Maqam (they have everything.)

Norma -- is the one I linked the one your teacher was talking about? The Rahbani Brothers LP?

Yep that's the one. I just bought the CD myself about a year ago. I used to have it on LP.

Well, not exactly. I wouldn't buy this CD version, because the first part is a bunch of what I would call ME elevator music that was added when the CD was re-released a few years ago. It's horrendous. The CD I linked you to is what was on the original LP, which is on this CD, about halfway through.

Click on Track number 9, Khatwet Samara. This is part of the original recording.

    so now i'm confused.

I found my copy of Said El Artist's Spectacular Rhythms and Saltana Iskandarani is on it, listed as track 10.

There are two tabla solos on Belly Dance! Spectacular Rhythms. Neither sounds like Saltana. But one of them is one of the most famous drum solos ever, just a short short version of it. Ouyouun El Badawiya by Setrak Sarkissian. The full version is on Dance with Samara Arabian Tabla Dances Called Dance of the Badawiya.

It's also on Dance with Samara, the drum solo at the end of track 1 called Raksat Samara (really Sit el Hassan).
