Greek Music to download - Quickly
Hey.
Got a gig at a Greek themed party on Monday.
Tried to find folkloric group for them to no avail.
Now I need some Greek party music to play at the end of my set. Will be doing some crowd participation and simple line dance.
Anyone have suggestions that I'll be able to download over the weekend or links to mp3's?
Thanks a million!

depends on what you want. old old school? terzis
always a good idea: anything by anna vissi, despina bandi, stamatis gonidis, sfakianakis
folk dances: kalamatiano, sirto (syrto), hasapiko... those are the easier folk line dances
as for a folkloric group- none of the greek orthodox churches in the area have dance groups? that's where the bulk come from here in maryland..

If you want to buy something for future performances I recommend the Levendes. I especially like the Welcome to Greektown CD as it reminds of the music they used to play when we still had clubs in Greektown. The double Exposure CD is really good too.

Thanks for the ideas, especially Levendes. I found one of my favorite songs on their site... Ime Anevasmenos, which was played non-stop when I spent a summer in Greece (way) back in '92.
I performed to "Ta Mavra Matyasu" by George Abdo - not a big stretch, it's the same as "Nebtidi" - and a drum solo. The performance was for the Texas School for the Deaf. Since most of the audience was hearing impared, I picked some simple and steady folk songs and led them in a very basic line dance at the end. We cranked up the music and they had a great time.
It turned out to be a really great gig. It was in a large auditorium. The stage was set with Greek columns and large images on Mykanos. Good sound, spot light and lots of smiling faces in the audience. At the end they held their hands up and waved their fingers, like spirit fingers. I did it back and they went crazy!
Not a bad way to start the week,
