Tahtill Shibbak -Translation of the mawaal
Hi!
Still another thread about Tahtill Shibbak...
I am looking for the translation (and the phonetic if possible) of the mawaal, the first part of Tahtill Shibbak sung by Fatme Serhan on Best of Saidi.
I looked for it but only find the translation of the song but not this particular part. Anyone can help me?
Thank you!

Re: Tahtill Shibbak -Translation of the mawaal
As sung by Fatme Serhan, assembled from work by various generous Bhuzzers.
Ba-oul ya hilwi, ya laabes elthoub. Ana biddi atoub a'ala eiydak.
I say, oh sweet one, wearing the dress, I want to repent on your hands.
Hilwi, ya laabes elthoub. Ana biddi atoub a'ala eiydak.
Oh sweet one, wearing the dress, I want to repent on your hands.
Ya Abu Remsh Gara7
Your eyelashes are a surgeon*
Ya Abu Remsh Gara7
Your eyelashes are a surgeon
Ana albi erta7 3ala eidak
My heart is healed by your hand
3ashan ba7ebak
Because I love you
3ayezny abous 3ala eidak
You want me to kiss your hand
*
Meaning/subtext:
--*You blink and I am cut, but you also heal me. (alternate translation from someone else - “one day and I am a surgeon.”)
--"You want me to kiss your hand" in Egyptian means "you want me to be your slave".

the phrase "Abu Remsh" (literally, "father of the eyelashes") is used in many songs to refer to a woman's beauty. I would translate that part "Your beauty is killing me."

Re: Tahtill Shibbak -Translation of the mawaal
Hum? I hate to burst any bubble but, but if we are taking about the Fatme Serhan's version, it's not her hand that he want to kiss... but her foot!!.w.: (Remember Dina when she is dancing to this song, on those exact lyrics, she's showing or touching her foot)

Anywoo, Caro, the best person to do any translation is Khadija Jabiry, she speaks classical arabic, do not hesitate to ask her any question about translation. She will be always happy to help you!

Re: Tahtill Shibbak -Translation of the mawaal
Qamar, I don't think we are talking about the same movement at the same place in the choreography. During the mawaal, Dina doesn't touch her feet. She does it later during the song itself when she lift up while touching her leg, tigh and up "to the sky". But in the mawaal, the introduction, I never saw Dina touching her feet.
If so, I missed something and I would be happy if you could indicate me where to look.

Re: Tahtill Shibbak -Translation of the mawaal
Bear in mind I could be wrong! I think that in the translation on Shira's site, it does say "DON'T look up," but this confuses me, because I'm sitting there with a native speaker who keeps saying it's "LOOK up". To me it makes more sense, though. I'm wondering if there was a mix-up in one of the words..."la" for "wa" or something. Anyhoooooo.
