Putting together a 15-20 minute show
So I need suggestions on putting together a 15-20 show for a mostly bellydancer audience. I do 20 minute shows at restaurants, but this will be more of a stage show.... I'm thinking open with a wing piece, then upbeat song, veil, taxsim, drum solo, then upbeat arabic pop song... how does that sound?

I also could add a short sword piece somewhere.

Sounds good for pacing.
Depending on the situation and your strengths/personal style, if I were in the audience I'd love to also see something a little deeper or more culturally based, like an Om Kalthoum piece, a baladi, or Saidi, or a folkloric piece.
ETA: Of course that's just one girl's preference. Ideally, though, I'd want to see you do whatever you love to do!

Hm...I would probably go with a long Oriental piece, because it's not done as much nowadays.

For a belly dancer audience? I would do an Oriental piece such as Sit El Hassan which can be 10-15 minutes long depending on which version you pick. The original version is 15 minutes long. Then as time permitted, maybe an Oum Kalsoum song or a beledi progression, and/or drum solo.

Sit el Hassan is good, I also like:
Journey of the Gypsy Dancer
Joumana
Sahra Saeeda
"Spectacular Rhythms" - I don't know the correct name of the song, but it's by Ziad Rahbani and it's about 20 minutes long, including baladi taxim and drum solo.
Any of the songs from Stars of Casino Opera CD
Amar 14 or
Eshta Ya Amar with the Drum solo and exit from the Amar 14 CD
You could also do Ya Amarti plus Jalilah's Balady, Souheir's Tabla, and Ya Amarti finale from the same CD (Amar 14 is a PHENOMENAL CD to own)
I could go on and on...

I would do a 'traditional' routine: vibrant entrance (possibly with veil or wings), baladi or slow piece, strong music like saidi or pop, drum solo, exit.
Good luck and most of all enjoy!
