    Songs that is shared between Greece and Turkey

    Since I live next to a Greek-Swedish club I hear a lot of beautiful music here;
    and I´ve found a YouTube channel that featured many shared songs!:)

    A little taste:

    A lot of Greeks and Turks share the same music. I was never too sure until one of my Greek friends told me this and most of the time it is well received. However, not all Turks and Greeks are fond of this but mostly in the US it is accepted okay.

    I know...it´s the same in the Balkans where songs are popular in Croatia,Macedonia,Bosnia,Albania and Serbia!

    Here is a short clip about just that featuring the song "Üsküdar":

    If we love the same song and can dance to it together,
    maybe people will become too tired to fight..?

    On June was at London with Ozgen.
    I almost killed him lol
    He is doing a huge research on the subject so in a weekend I heard more than 500 greek and turkish songs to recognize them, i had an overdose lol
    Its gonna be an amazing archive !

    Well for more than 400 years Greece was occupied by Turkey so things like this are natural ;)

    Well, Miserlou has its own story (actually many variants thereof):

    [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misirlou]Misirlou - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]

    The Near Eastern Number

    And, can't find it before coffee, there was a really super-cool special on the roots of that tune on public radio a few years back.

    I also have the video "Whose song is this", it is very interesting, highly recommend it - it has some tense moments in the end, where patriotism wipes out the fun. The irony is that Uskudara is probably a Sephardic (possibly from Egypt?) tune. That really makes me laugh!
