need a song without a keyboard
hi all,
can someone recommend a traditional song (post a link for me) that DOES NOT have a keyboard? i'm looking for something earthy, yet traditional, instrumental, old-school without keyboard....thinking more full orchestra orientle. ....(egyptian, syrian, iraqi lebanese, tunisian, ...)
i'm sooo bored of the keyboard, and not just looking for a drum solo
:)

Re: need a song without a keyboard
Check out Abbud Abdel Aal and his Golden Strings. I saw an audio of his here on bhuz, "Sahara city" from the album which I own I think they have a wonderful oldschool sound and I remember without synthetical sounds at all - the recording is great and it doesn't sound "tired" at all. Also check out the thread on "what cds do you love lately", there is Leyla's whatever??? I listened to samples on cd baby and the sound is fabulous...
God so many songs of which I think: if they had only bothered to hire an orchestra to record this it would have been sooo great...the tabla, the accordion, the violin - all terrible...

Re: need a song without a keyboard
Sahara City is great. Especially, the newly released live version, with Nagwa Fouad. I danced to it in Chicago a couple years ago. Chilling music!!!!
It's on Sayidi Belly Dance with Nagwa Foaud. The first track is Sahara City. The 2 track is a complete 1/2 hour routine. The first song though can be used as a complete routine, complete with drum solo and finale. The rest has natural stops so it would be fairly easy to edit. It's all LIVE music.

$17.99
Step back in time and enjoy a classic! Includes three routines starting with Sahara City. Dance to master musicians Farouk Salemeh, Omar Khorshed, Samir Seblini, Fouad Hassan and more. Recorded live--good quality. Tracks: Raksat El-Sahra, Raksat Nagua Fouad, Raksat Safah Yousri

Also check out any of the VOS stuff mostly live orchestra. If you want something without a keyboard you pretty much have to go pre-80's. Accordian music played a key role before the keyboard.
I have a lot of old cassettes I'm planning on converting to digital. None of the new stuff compares to the old.Last edited by norma; 10-05-2009 at 08:53 AM. Reason: Adding link
