Pharonic music suggestions?
I'm looking for some Pharonic sounding music, or something along that idea. Can be kinda campy, but not "Walk Like an Egyptian" campy--I mean more Hollywood Orientalist grandeur campy.
Any suggestions out there??

There's a track on "Aziza Raks" by Eddie Kochek called Phaedra Pharonica that I think has the level of campiness you're looking for. I love that piece.

I really love this song as well. There is a video on youtube that shows a pharaonic choreo to this song by Hossam and Serena Ramzy, but I didn't want to predispose you to anything....

And there's always this one, the penultimate pharaonic song in mybook:

I also like "Camel Ride" from the Desert Passage CD, and for big, old Hollywood orchestration, "Dimashq" from The Best Bellydance Album in the World, Ever Vol. I.
I have more, but I have to get ready to go to the dentist, woo!Last edited by tamrahennatx; 10-05-2009 at 11:25 AM.

Re: Pharonic music suggestions?
The Hossam Ramzy/Phil Thornton collaboration produced some really interesting music, but if you want to attempt something "historically" pharaonic, their records have the obvious drawback of sounding very modern. They need to record an unplugged version of Immortal/Eternal/Enchanted Egypt for pharaonic dancers.
Have you looked at any of these? I don't own them, but they seem promising.

Yep! "Soft Breeze" by Kairo by Night (on the Hadia cd) is a good one. I think there is another track on that cd that has that kind of sound to it!

Re: Pharonic music suggestions?
I don't think you want to dance to Leysh Natarak. I believe the lyrics have to do with the Israel/Arab conflict so it doesn't seem very appropriate.

Re: Pharonic music suggestions?
"Pharaoh" by Phil Thornton and "Ancient Egypt: A Tribute" by Ali Jahid Racy both contain beautiful, haunting tracks. Not very campy, though :)
And, as mmouse mentioned above, "Soft Breeze" by Kairo by Night is a bit more "Hollywood". We've had lots of fun improvising with veils to this piece.
