I need one more Miserlou....
I'm putting together a "Miserlou Mosaic" piece using the version that Harry Saroyan sings, and will finish with the Dick Dale version but I need one more with a different feel...any suggestions?

There's one on Kairo by Night's newest album, Lahadat.
Also vintage one: Artie Barsimian's Shadow's in the Casbah. I can't remember where/when i got this. I may have downloaded it from...brain freeze. That podcast of vintage belly dance music. Back when they had a monthly album to download. email me if you need an mp3.

If it helps, Artie Barsamian's version seems to be clarinet (higher pitched than George Abdo's). And just a bit of something stringed and strummy (kanoun, probably). With a constant basic maksoum rhythm (doum tek, tek doum tek). All around, simpler than Abdo's .

Americanistan has a version with a female vocalist. You can listen to a clip of it here: http://cdbaby.com/cd/americanistan2. You can download the track on iTunes. Search for Americanistan, the CD is titled Live at Luna, the track is Miserlou.

There is a version from Esquivel, very nice. As always with him, it's a very interesting arrangement with an orchestra with all kinds of unexpected instruments.

PS: Try the spelling Misirlou.

I have a version we affectionately nicknamed the "goddess" version of Miserlou. It has a woman singing, absolutley beautiful, but I have no clue as to any other info about it. I wish I had the artist info on it, but no one seems to know anything about it, other than it was a copy someone gave my instructor many years ago. I'd be happy to burn it to a cd and send it to you if you want.

Just dont know how you can find it, cause we have in Greece more than 50 versions with various singers from various era's with Missirlou.
Check online Eleutheria Arvanitaki and Glykeria maybe they have something online.

Yeah, sort of like a college station in Los Altos, CA (KFJC - The Wave of the West - okay, I'm old) used to do with Louie Louie.
I think they started with like 40 versions. After a few years, they ended up doing a whole weekend of NOTHING but Louie Louie versions - with no repeats! LOL
Hey, maybe I should change my 'All Rompi Rompi - All the Time' Belly Jam to Miserlou.
You can do any song you like as long as it's Miserlou. LOL

The punk rock version... well.... rocks!
And I have the Esquivel version somewhere and it's really fun. Kim, you're going to have to do a 30 minute jam....

And I thought I was being so original doing this......cr.: ..l;, oh well, hopefully none of my students are reading this and it will still be new to them.
iTunes has loads of versions, I spent ages listening to the sample clips. I've gone with the Brothers of the Baladi and Pulp Fiction, although a bit of editing will be needed to make it family friendly!

Of all the Miserlou's I've ever heard, George Abdo's exquisite version remains my favorite! On the album "The Art of Belly Dancing."

Wah! I missed the Miserlou Mosaic performance debut at the Jim Boz show last night - I was stuck backstage waiting to go on. But my husband said it was brilliant!

Don't forget the Black Eyed Peas' "Pump It" - the melody is straight from Miserlou!

Re: I need one more Miserlou....
Reviving this 2-year-old thread to add another version I found on eMusic today - The Strolling Strings 50th Anniversary Vol. 2 songs from eMusic.com
By the way, did your Miserlou Mosaic performance every end up on YouTube? I'd love to see it!
