Anyone know good Persian dance songs?
I got a request to include Persian music. I was thinking I just want an upbeat tip song, maybe Persian pop. However, I don't know where to start looking. Anyone know any good Persian CDs? Names would be so helpful.

A Persian artist named Sheila, she uses Pijan Montezavi on her CD, he is a very famous violinist, so it has the classic elements mixed with pop. Here is the link http://www.iranmehr.com/music/shoppi...1100&iType=244

My Persian friend gave me an album "Millennium Beat" by Morteza,
she says it popular.
Also the artist Jadoo is popular.
My favorite Pesian song is a remake of a very popular Arabic song. . .
I tried to upload it onto Bhuz for you,
but it's on a CD not an mp3.
If you know how to turn a CD into an mp3 let me know.
Good Luck!

Thanks for this post. I recently recategorized my music in iTunes so I could sort it by country (ie. Egyptian, Turkish, Syrian...). I discovered (something I knew, but never wanted to admit, I think) that I have a HUGE amount of Egyptian music, some Turkish and very little of anything else. My goal is to now E X P A N D my collection so I have more to offer my clients.
Off to Maqam to find some Persian tunes...
[we should really have a smiley for shopping...]

Isn't "Mastom Mastom" a Persian song? It's upbeat and fun. My Persian friend says it is about being drunk on love.

hmmm, www.bia2.com has stuff you can listen too. But My votes for popular pop artists at the moment for a younger crowd (due to the flirty nature of the song) are
Arash: Tike Tike Kardi, Atish
Omid: To Masheri, Shirin Sozeh
Kamran and Hooman: Oon ba man
Mehran: Booseh
Shohreh:Dooset Daram
If the crowd is mostly older folks, then something like Googoosh (extremely famous, been singing since she was in her teens) or Leila Frouhar would be good. Just make sure you can find a translation for both of these ladies because they sing alot of sad songs.
Let me know if you need more help.

Also Shahram Solati is pretty good. I can't recommend a song at the moment, I would have to wake hubby and ask him which would be good. Also, Andy has been popular for ages, he always has new albums. I know he's got a duet with Ragheb Alama called "Yalla, Yalla" but Im not sure what album its on.
Umm...Sepideh "Setareh" is nice.

Any version of the song "Nastaram" is likely to be a crowd pleaser. It amazes me how groups of Persian partiers never seem to get tired of that song. It's generally very danceable too. Every Persian wedding/special event singer sings it.

I can't seem to find this song anywhere!?! Do you know of any CDs it's on?
I found the Arash song for free here. I plan to buy the CD and support my artists, of course.

Listening to some of these newer pop songs, most of them may be by Persian artists but they do not use Persian rhythms. Are they just wanting you to include a modern Persian artist, or do they want Persian music? The only song by Arash that I could find that actually uses Persian rhythm is "Behnaz". The rest sound more like Latin or just dance club rhythms. Having danced for Persian crowds for years, I have a hard time seeing the point of just dancing to a Persian pop artist without actual Persian rhythm.
You might want to ask for clarification, and also try to get an idea if the crowd you will be dancing for is all generations, or just young. If they are all very young, maybe any Persian pop artist would do. But if it is a family event, I would tend to veer towards something that uses Persian (6/8) rhythm and something that is a little more "classic", i.e. played by most Persian dance bands at parties.
Another one that might work is "Joni Jonom" by Leila. It more towards a modern pop Bandari, 6/8 and very danceable. Some of the brand new stuff just sounds like whitewashed, generic pop to me.
09-18-2007 02:39 PM #18The track I usually use for parties is just labeled, "Sandy-Doktareh". I have a feeling that it's not very recent, but it definitely sounds more traditional in rhythm and instrumentation than newer things I've heard.
I know the DJ won't play anything like that later for the regular dancing folks, and it goes from upbeat to slow and back to a very upbeat finale.
Has anyone else used this song or know more about it? Do tell!
I hate doing bandari in a bedlah. Oh, the things we do for money sometimes...
