I'm gonna teach some veil technique to my intermediate students in the next session and would like to teach them a short choreo as well...
I've been going through my music collection, but can't seem to find "the right song"...
I'm looking for something not too long (3 minutes would be ideal), not too fast, preferably instrumental with a steady rithm....
Any suggestions?
Thx!!

What about Miserlou?

Or a classic rhumba by Eddie Kochak?

I loved Sonya Hohmann's performance to "desert orchid" by KBN.
(Kairo by night, album Lahadat).

Re: Music suggestions for veil choreo?
I recently choreographed Desert Eclipse for my students:
[ame=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0010EX6EC/ref=dm_dp_trk10]Amazon.com: Desert Eclipse: Charlie Abboud: MP3 Downloads[/ame]
I've used Desert Orchid in the past too and that is a nice one. I've also used George Abdo's Miserlou and that is very pretty. Also Abdo's Leila.
My former troupe Shazadi did a nice veil choreography to Aahat:
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7RoZXMxK2o]YouTube - Shazadi Belly Dance Troupe![/ame]
[ame=http://www.amazon.com/Aahat/dp/B000QL9ZOU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=dmusic&qid=1262782641&sr=8-2]Amazon.com: Aahat: Wael Kfouri: MP3 Downloads[/ame]
Shahravar uses Natasha Atlas songs to really great effect, this one is called when I close my eyes, I believe:
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7n-m3Iu8Ho]YouTube - Utah Belly Dance artist. Shahravar with Double Veils[/ame]
Lama Bada can be really nice for veil.
Oh and I recently found a really pretty version of Erev Shel Shoshanim that could be really nice for a veil choreography:

Re: Music suggestions for veil choreo?
I can't seem to find a link for it, but "Turkish Delight" from the CD Raks Fayzen is an awesome veil song. Pete List's BalladE is what I'm doing right now for veil.

Re: Music suggestions for veil choreo?
I second Eddie the Sheik's rhumbas (2nd song on all 6 of "Strictly Belly Dancing" "albums, & G.Adbo's Miserloue (that's my favorite version).Also "Bir Demet Yasmin (Bouquet of Jasmine), many versions out there, Itunes for ex.
Belly Dancing for Fame & Fortune by Mogador Band has a nice Bir Demet, also Sala Sala nice for veil.

Re: Music suggestions for veil choreo?
Thx for all the input ladies!
I've been browsing my music collection and your suggestions this evening, but the problem is I can't make up my mind lol
I love desert orchid, but I'm also really into marco polo from Loreena McKennitt... I just get goosebumps when I listen to that song!
And now that I've been going through my BDSS CD's, Drama Queen pops up too!
It's a bit faster, but I like the rithm changes, etc. Last year, we used Ice queen for a veil piece with another group and it was kinda challenging, but it turned out to be such a cute choreo...
hmmmm maybe a good night sleep will help ,s::

Re: Music suggestions for veil choreo?
Have you heard Majesty of Dawn? It's on Dancer's Odessey by Amaya. Part of the Gitano-ARabe Suite. This music is so beautiful I had to incorporate it into my class somehow, so I"m using it as the cool down/Stretch.

Although I still strongly recommend Miserlou or an Eddie Kochak rhumba.Last edited by norma; 01-15-2010 at 08:34 PM. Reason: Added song link

Re: Music suggestions for veil choreo?
Majesty of Dawn is so beautiful and not overdone. Personally, I didn't care for Yearning that much. Maybe because it's been so overplayed. But also, I think the older rhumbas are so much better.

Re: Music suggestions for veil choreo?
I just finished choreographing a veil dance to a song called Oblivion by the Faux Frenchmen. It's a lovely song and you can find it on Itunes. I've also used Mummers Song by Lorena McKinnett.

Khaled's "Aiysha"
