    Doumbek instruction

I got a doumbek for Christmas, and I want to learn how to properly play it, rather than just banging on it in my room and driving everyone in the house crazy. What would be a good option for me in terms of doumbek instruction? Yeah, I'd like to learn rhythms, but I'm more concerned right now with proper playing TECHNIQUE. My doums and teks are just depressing.

    Thank you

Where are you located? In NYC Carmine (I forget his last name!) of Djinn is a great teacher; in Oregon there's Michael Beach of Brothers of the Beledi. Micheal has a DVD out as well.

This is true! We are excited to have Uncle Mafufo, Joshua Levin, Orlando Lara, and Maggie Manners all teaching at our drum track. So if you want to take a weekend trip to Vegas in September for some instruction, it would be great. There are beginning classes too...so don't feel intimidated.

Additionally, Souhail Kaspar is going to be in Vegas next month. If you want more details about that, I will track the info down for you.

    I also recommend Karim Nagi.

I ordered the dvd and the cd. I didn't get it yet. But I think I won't be disappointed.
