all improv tabla solo. I kept on thinking he was bringing it to and end...but then it would keep going and going. LOL. He's a blast to work with...he plays a lot of sets of three. lol.

Mariah improv with the live band. Does anybody know the name of this song and it's origin? So fun and playful to dance to.

Sounded similar to Tel3et Ya Mahla Nourha but not 100%. Would be a strange song to dance to if it was because the song is about waking up at sunrise to milk the cows.

Yup! I'm listening to Abdo Raks Mustapha in my iTunes library. I have the song! I knew when the band was playing the song I had heard it many times before. Thank you for helping! I love the Chifte Telli in the original sound track. Wish the band played that part for me. Still a joy to dance to.

Re: post clips of yourself of others working with live music!
They were a sweet band! And lovely dancing Eshta!
:D Thanks so much! I think yellow is such a GREAT performance color... and this one was just warm/orange enough for me to pull off. Not an easy feat for a pale redhead!
lol.
Thank you SO much! That was an incredibly STRESSFUL day! Artemis Mourat held her So You Wanna Be a Star workshop show AND Student Recital at the monthly hafla that I host. The amount of organizing and coordinating was insane. It was jam packed (yay) and really hot (boo!). I am relieved that that all didn't show in my dancing... then again- he IS so much fun to work with.
Actually, he said it right one time when he didn't say "when will you dance with us again?" He asked me "when will you PLAY with us again?"... Whether I choose to take it as "dance is like playing an instrument" OR like children AT PLAY - they both make sense.

Re: post clips of yourself of others working with live music!
LOL. Mohsein does not spoon feed the dancers and he also knows who has fun with improvising and will welcome a challenge. There were a couple places where he could have been paying more attention, I agree with you. I prefer a little bit of surprise in there though. To me it's part of the energy of playing with a band. If it's all like clockwork and predictable we may as well be dancing with CD. This sort of situation (to me) is not meant to look "perfected and practiced ad nauseum."
He plays a lot of "threes," not "fours." this is popular in Cairo now though. They don't really play fours much over there anymore.
I've worked with major "run away drummers" who really play for their own ego. While to some he may seem a little wild or unpredictable, he is FAR from a run away drummer. :)Last edited by SamiraShuruk; 09-30-2010 at 10:20 AM.

Re: post clips of yourself of others working with live music!
my experience with live music is limited, so this was scary BEFOREHAND. but i loved it. I loved it! i think live music agrees with me, lol.
sadly i only have footage of the first song, not of alf leyla wa leyla and the violin taksim, and hebbina... so you'll just have to believe me when i tell you how much fun i had ;-)

Re: post clips of yourself of others working with live music!
I've been enjoying these all so much!
I'm pretty new at dancing to live music and have very limited experience with it. But I figured that throwing myself into a competition would be a fun experience and I'd get some input about ways I'm interpreting the music that I don't necessarily get at a hafla or festival.
I didn't place in this category, but I felt pretty good considering it was all improv. It's hard to think, listen and dance all at the same time. lol
