Have you ever been searching for a recording of a particular song you love, finally find a cd with that song listed in the tracks, buy it for that one song and then listen to it to discover that it is the cheesiest elevator music version of that song ever created.
Why oh why must it be that way!
Just wanted to commiserate with those of you who have experienced this.

ALL the time! I'm constantly on the lookout for a usable version of Ahwak, but each and every time it turns out to be "cheeky elevator music". LOL. Nice description.

in the past? YES! hatehatehate......thank goodness for itunes.......not everything is on there of course, but at least you get enuf of a sample that you can pass/fail on a 99 cent track....so worth it......with my economic situation i can't afford a full cd of drek.........in fact just built 2 new sets recently from itunes for less than 10 bucks(great stuff, too....alot of the oriental i've been looking for), where in the past, that's almost $100 or more for 8-10 cd's that i would barely pull out for other than a track or 2

Yes, it happens to me a whole lot. That's part of the reason why I've started using emusic. I can't tell you how many times I've spent $16-$20 on a CD only to find out it was absolute crap. :(

That's exactly why I love downloading! My CD rack was full of crud just because of that. Now I can pick and chose. Wonderful!

Hell yeah! Thank goodness for Itunes et al...but it's those obscure pieces I become obsessed to find that still keeps me doing that!

All the time! In fact sometimes I've bought a CD AFTER listening to clips of it online only to discover that the clip was the decent section of music on the entire CD! It really irks me that there are so many many bad CD's out there.

Re: Ever buy a cd just for one song....
Constantly! But I also remember buying dance cassettes (yep, cassettes, still have 'em all next to my LPs) and actually feeling lucky if there was one song on it I could or would use. Being able to hear small samples or whole tracks of music ahead of time online has saved me a lot of money and heartache. Now at least I *know* there is one good track on it, so it's not so much of a crap shoot.
I still gamble with music, though, especially when I am at a used record store. Like everyone, I'm always looking for more good and usable music, and part of our biz is taking chances on unknown albums.
Blah blah...all that said, I agree that is a stinky feeling!
