Thread: Obtaining permission to use a song

I hope this is in the right place.

How would I go about this? There is a language barrier. I actually used the song in a small hafla, but it was videotaped and I want to put the vid up to share if I get the videographer's permission. I don't want to break any rules, and I really want to share my vid. Any ideas?

If the videographer has a website with this on it, you can simply link to his website. That way he's getting hits and credit, and you get exposure. Not sure about this, but I believe the videographer needs your permission to have video of you on his website or being used in commercial ways anyhow? Anyone else know this detail?

In my experience, unless there is some sort of copyright or exclusive rights contract most people are fine as long as you give them credit. I've posted some videos of famous dancers and been contacted by their management team not to chastise me but to correct some information I may have had about the video or a name spelling error.

And yes, usually the videographer would need your permission to post your video on his commercial website unless you signed some sort of waiver.

Is this question about the use of the music or of the video?
