what music should I get....
I have 24 free credits on my Emusic account. I don't know what to get. Any suggestions? I have tons and haven't danced to even a fraction of it because I'm always waiting till the last minute to get it. Then I just end up finding one song I like and getting the whole album because I don't know what else to get... So now it's free, I have a month, so I want to make it count. : )
What's your vote??

What kind of music do you like? Are you looking for classic song suggestions? Newer music?

Oooh great! I'm in the same quandary- 22 credits to use by the 12th!
Would be especially useful to know of any albums that do not have the keyword 'bellydance' in but are great for dancing to, like the Light Rain albums for example.

Re: what music should I get....
I think I'd like a few of those songs EVERY dancer should have. But I also like more contemporary sound. I have a hard time getting a good idea of what things sound like from those 30sec snippets. I've been burned a few times looking for "something no one else has".... That 30 sec sounds cool, but the rest of the song .... there's a reason no one else has it. lol
(No Turkish Pop. That's easy for me to find for some reason.)

I've been burned 1000 million times by those 30 second snippets. I swear the deliberately pick out the best part then the rest of the CD is crap.
I like Walid Toufic's Neqsim Al Amar from his Top Hits CD.
My beginner class loves, "I wanna see you belly dance" by the Red Elvises.
I and all my students love "Tigi Ya Matigish" from the Soul of Cairo Album.
I recently decided to use Tales of the Sahara" from one of the BDSS Vol. 3 CD for a choreo.
Efred by Hakim has always been a big hit with my students.
My personal taste runs to anything by Abdel Halim Hafiz! Classic Eygptian Orientale routines such as Ma'shaal, Sit El Hosen, Nagwa, Sahara City. Samir Srour's beledi progressions. I love the Lebanese drummer Setrak's routines. I think is older volume such as Vol. 21 is great.
Adam Basma's CD is a must have!
Adam Basma Arabic Dance Ensemble Volume 1
$17.99
A fabulous collection of traditional Egyptian style pieces with excellent orchestration. A Nagwa Fouad music lover's delight with Princess of Cairo, Banat Iskandariah, Set El Hosen and more. Includes one drum solo. Tracks: Nagwa, Hadi Yensa Albou, Sadini, Awadaak, Banat Iskandariah, Ada El Leil, Solo Tabla, Set El Hosen

Re: what music should I get....
Another bhuzzer hooked me up with this CD: Belly Dance New York with Amir Naoum. It's old school music and instrumentation. It has classics songs and every element of a traditional belly dance show like Mustapha, Ya Ain Mulayatain, Chiftitellis, rhumba, Turkish Karsilama, drum solo.
I like it because the tracks are short and the rhythm is named for each track. I didn't get the companion DVD but the DVD is called Bellydance Show Basics for Beginners.
