Leila...I need better versions!
I am astounded to learn that I have just two copied of the classic song "Leila" and BOTH aren't what I want to choreograph for my students...I haven't a clue how it's possible with as many CDs that I own that I have but TWO versions of this song!!!
Can anyone point me in the direction of a good version?
I have a 'clubby' kind of mix by Nicodemus and one by Pangia.
I heard the one by the Mohamed Ali Ensemble and wasn't wild about that one either! Help!

What about Eddie Kochak, on his Vol. 2 CD? George Abdo is always good as well, of course ;-)

Brother's of the Baladi have a nice version. Also there is one on the Bellydancing for Fortune and Fame cd.
It's so funny that there are so few versions of this song, I love it!

I like the one on Bellydance for Fortune and Fame. There is also a good version on the new "Golden Age/Taheya Carioca" CD put out by Hollywood Music Center.
I love Leyla! Will look through my music to find others, and look forward to learning more from this thread!

Re: Leila...I need better versions!
Thank you for the reminder to put up a Leila page on BellydanceDownloads.com!
I agree that the version on Belly Dancing for Fortune and Fame is nice - really easy to break down for students and it's less than 3 min., I believe). However, it's not available for download and not even on Amazon (directly, anyway - there's currently one available through another seller). So you'll want to check with someone like Scheherezade Imports or even BellydanceShoppe.com and they'll have to buy the CD.
There's another short (3:17) version on "Art of the Bellydance".

Re: Leila...I need better versions!
Ahhhhh! Thank you all...this gives me a running start...
I have "Art of the Belly Dance" and forgot that was probably the first version that I every heard! The Belly Dance for Fame and Fortune version isn't bad, I own that CD, but I was hoping for something a bit more melodic...I'll check out the Brothers of Baladi and the others mentioned!
Keep em coming!
UPDATE...just bought the version by Brother's of the Baladi ...EXACTLY what I needed...thank you...now I'm sorry that I didn't buy the whole CD on iTunes...it rocks!Last edited by Gia al Qamar; 02-11-2010 at 07:31 PM.
