Who licenses Issam Houshan's music?
I don't own a studio and so am not very familiar with the ins and outs of music licensing, but I'm trying to figure out who licenses Issam Houshan's compositions (i.e. his drum solos). I'm getting no love from the repertory searches on the ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC websites.
Anyone know offhand which agency handles his music in North America?

Re: Who licenses Issam Houshan's music?
If you want to use the music in a video project, I don't think BMI/ASCAP handle that.
I'm guessing Miles Copeland is his producer? That's who you'd contact to purchase a license to use the music in a video or compilation.
If you're performing or teaching to it, not reselling the music itself in some format, the venue where you're performing should have you covered through ASCAP/BMI
ETA: Just did a quick googling, looks like some of his music is on the Copeland label and some on Ark 21.Last edited by Lauren_; 03-12-2010 at 05:02 PM.

It looks like his personal contact info is here http://www.tablabyissam.com/ (won't let me link directly to his "Contact" tab), and his BDSS face is here Contact Us - Bellydance Superstars. His records are distributed through Ark 21 or CIA, so either way, it's Miles. I'd try asking at one of those two places--I'm sure they can tell you.

It's for a local TV news segment. They do have a blanket license of some sort, but the more information I can go in with the better.

Probably just knowing which label it's on will be more than enough, and you should be able to get that info from the CD itself.

Re: Who licenses Issam Houshan's music?
Issam pretty much handles his own music and decides who can sell it and who cannot. He teaches and practices here at our studio in North Hollywood, when he's not on tour with the fabulous Belly Dance Superstars. If you are interested in having his permission to sell his CDs and/or DVDs, we can pass your information on to him and have him contact you directly. He's absolutely the best tabla player on the planet!
